dont forget to go to next steps as well - they are very good. I've just done a full day of a financial course - very good xxx0

Thanks so much daisyf, but unfortunately Next Steps is only in England. CareersWales is its equivalent here. I expect its exactly the same, other than the name. They seem very good so far - I got info on 3 streams of funding I can tap into and one is to fund further training/courses.
What was the course you went on called? I've been trying to see if there are any courses relating to self employment but not alot this part of the country anyway?!
9.5 working days left0 -
I think you have lots more funding avaiable to you in Wales - so make sure you get all the things you can get. I went on a business link courses and they were very useful. just had an interview at the bank and set myself up a business bank account - 6 days left xxxx0

Oh wow, Sloganjerry and Daisyf, this has been quite an inspirational thread. I was made redundant long ago and have now been self employed for getting on for a decade, but I certainly didn't handle it as well as both of you have, as in getting help form outside the company and using that help. I was too high up the ladder to be able to benefit from the union (this was in another country) but I didn't and should have, taken an employment lawyer in with me to the meetings. I was completely naive - I thought HR would go into bat for me, because the company was always on about how HR were there for the employees! Hah, Not on your life! they are there to protect the organisations assets from the employees. It was me against six of them, a couple of whom were really unpleasant. I remember staying really calm and insisting on redundancy even though my position wasn't actually redundant but I think they worked out that constructive dismissal was going to cost them a whole heap more. I think they just thought I would be a "middle aged woman" and just skulk away in the shadows, without a package - they were trying to force me to resign so they wouldn't have to pay me out.
It turns out that the couple who were being nasty had been told to expect a bonus - there was a huge restructuring and they were trying to get people to resign/move on/accept redeployment rather than having to pay them out - if they saved the company the redundancy money.
I must say, I enjoyed leaving. I had fairly unique skills and it transpired in the months that followed (by which time "no i wasn't available to come back and help them out on contrct because I was on the other side of the world") they got into a mess and then the internal clients started to tell their bosses what had really happened in the "negotiations". Three months later both of those managers because managers of air, dust and soot. They left without any parachute/redundancy money because they were on rolling contracts (so still like permanent employees, but high up enough to be on 2 yearly reviews) and the company didn't renew their contracts.0 -
i must admit that i have had no help whatsoever from my employer or HR nothing whatsoever - have told me nothing about any of these courses - I've even had to chase my redundancy paperwork - and this has been going on since before christmas. The restructure itself was illegal but I want to get out and not work in place that has back stabbing team members - I know I was pushed but I really dont care. My only problem i have is I dont want a leaving presentation - I've not got another job or retirement i was pushed and if that hadn't happened as I truly loved my job - i wouldnt leave -:) lol
But after being seriously ill in January - you have to be positive and things for me have worked out - got myself a part time job and going to be part time self employed as well - already have two contacts for that as well.
This forum has been amazing as i've been able to do a lot of research whiilst off sick and also when I got back to work done lots of training and sorted myself out for the self employed side. Just need to register myself as self employed.
Sounded like it worked out for you dk well done.0 -

If you feel you have your future sorted then you could go out with a bang, unless you think burning this bridge could effect future work.
A leaving speach that sucks them all in with some nice sucking up comment great place to work etc followed by how things have changed lays the warts and all on the table.
Then present your old team with a set of the cheapest steak knives you can find.
Get as many people to turn up from around the company as you can.0 -

(8 working days to go!)0 -
Hi Guys!
I’ve finally reached my last week in work! I can’t believe it’s finally here. 5 working days left after today! :T
Daisyf, like you I’m not looking forward to my ‘leaving do’ which is being planned for my last day next week, but have decided to just grin and bear it and get through it as best I can, so at least I go out in a positive manner, hopefully. I would love to have the guts to do something like Getmoreforless suggests, but unfortunately I will probably need to ask my employer for a reference in the future so thought it best not to burn my bridges on this occasion. They seem to be treating me quite civilly now they know my leaving is a matter of fact.
I’ve started an online application for JSA. It’s quite good that you can do a bit every day and return to the application with a password and ref no. As long as you return to it within 7 days it will still be there but if you leave it for any longer it wipes and you need to start a new application I think.
I’m still not sure whether to claim straight away or wait till August when my contract of employment definitely ends. I have been told by some that I could go and sign on immediately the day after I finish work and by some that I should wait till August as I am supposedly on ‘gardening leave’ and have been told I could (but very unlikely to) be called in to work up till this time. My dilemma is which is actually best for me?
My reasons for not rushing to sign on are:
- I’m left alone and don’t have to face the scary people at the job centre for another month!
- As you can only claim contributions based JSA for 6 months I would then get it till January – instead of having hassle of changing benefits at Xmas time?!
I just need to find out if when I get paid the PILON does this mean my stamp is also taken out and paid up till August I guess? Anyway, I’ll let you know what I find out. Speak soon guys! Cheers!:beer:0 -
You can't get PILON and de on garden leave for the same time.
You claim from the date they terminate the contract.
once terminated they can't call you back.0 -
Thanks Getmore4less - you've been fantastic with all the great advice you've given.
It wouldn't be the first time HR have got it wrong. The only problem is I do have August as the termination date on my redundancy letter so might need to get this changed if HR will admit their mistake?!
Otherwise hope that the Job centre don't ask to see it!
Cheers!0
