What's with ECLECTIC? I presume that's how it is spelled, as I can't find it in my dictionary :p Then again, my copy must be at least 10 years old so probably due "an upgrade"

Eclectic is in my 12 year old dictionary, there were in 1st and 2nd century BC Greece a group of thinkers called the Eclectics. It means choosing the best of everything or borrowing from a variety of styles etc.

In my head office the latest saying is 'Let's put this to bed ' at the end of the meeting which all the head honchos seem to have picked up.

I think one that drives me mad is "op suggest you esculate and complain to...." :rotfl:

Yep but I luv it !;):rotfl:
  • Maybe it's just a british thing but I hate it when people say 'Oh on THE Tuesday we will go to the fair'....Why not just say 'On Tuesday we will go to the fair'. WHY the 'The'? Also when people say 'Meet you on THE Cowley Rd'. Just say 'Meet you on Cowley Rd' !!!!!! :(

I also get irritated when people say 'Let's go for a meal' I dunno, I'm weird but why not say lunch/dinner/brunch/snack whatever, why is it always just 'meal'?

I hate the verb to "get", with passion. (note: not with a passion!)

It is such a weak verb and in all the English language there are so many lovely descriptive verbs and yet we often hear, "we need to get xxxx".

Text speak makes me cringe, I understand that it originally came to use when we used to pay per character for sending international telex etc (note: not ect!) however nowadays we pay per message not character and therefore we do not need to use shorthand.
If I receive a text message that starts with "m8", it goes straight to <delete>!
