Hi
Ive got my shed going up at weekend- I want to paint it a nice light colour with a contrasting trim but oh said he just wants to varnish it as it will look stupid aparently.
has anyone got an opinion on this? will it look naff:(
in my garden fantasy world- my fence is white and so is my shed with a cornflower blue trim- kind of a traditional greek house :rotfl:, it has little window boxes and is full of nastursiums etc to contast with the blue:o Ive pebbled the base area so hope to put flower pots around it and maybe a seat . I do live in birmingham though so maybe its all a little tragic:rotfl::(

I had a new shed last year. It's yellow, has a overhang on the roof (to make it look a bit summer-housey) and has a basket under the window. My fences are Cedar red and my patios a kind of yellow too. It's painted with proper fence/wood paint which isn't a varnish type, more of a stain type.
Since it's my shed, I can paint it whatever colour I like. Sheds aren't just for men, follow your garden fantasy if you want to!0 -
It depends whose shed it is
Yours, you paint it whatever you want. His and you let him do whatever he wants with it.
Both of yours and maybe you get a side each.
I have a typical brown shed, but my new one is bathroom green (bathroom paint as well, cheap) and looks great.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
I have a blue shed, personally I think that they look a lot nicer painted. Go for it! Your garden is your haven, so why not? It sounds lovely.
If it were me I would get on and do it, but then my OH always puts DIY on the bottom of the to do list!"Live each day as if it were your last and garden as though you will live forever"

I've ordered a summerhouse for the kids toys and am painting it cornflower blue, I know I'll get objections from h but he is getting his own shed so can have that boring brown or green if he wants!0

Paint it whatever colours you like. Some people like to stick to brown or green, but there's load of choice so why not have some fun with it?Hoping this year is better than the last.0

I agree with FLA27 and Lotus-eater - if it's your shed, in a sunny spot with a nice bench outside where you can take a well-earned break with a cuppa and a biscuit, paint it to your heart's desire.
If it's his shed, behind the garage, next to the compost heap, in the shade of next door's overgrown hedge, and full of old nails and screws in rusty tins, plus various car parts and other "useful" bits of oily scrap, best leave well alone.
:rotfl:
And ignore the neighbours' opinions - you'll never please everyone, so do it your way!If I'm over the hill, where was the top?0 -
I have been trying to choose a colour scheme for the items in my garden including my shed and I am keen to paint it a shade of blue! In my case we use the garden so much in the summer months that I want it to be pretty and inviting so no plain shed for me!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I was so excited when I got my first shed, like yours it has a pretty overhang and window boxes. Stopped planting in these after the first 5 years as I decided it was too much hassle trailing the hose to the bottom of the garden. Instead of being my retreat all my old boxes and junk finds it's way into the shed, foxes regularly shelter underneath it but I wouldn't be without it. I'm just thinking about what to do with it this year...trailing busy lizzies I think.
I'm another one with a bright red shed and fence panels...but if it wasn't red it would either be moss-green or blue so go for it!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
