Dishwasher - HELP!?

Morning all,

Our dishwasher seems to be on strike. Only been in the house for six weeks and kind vendor didn't leave behind the instruction manual!!

Pots are still dirty after cycle. Have run them through about four times and now glasses going cloudy. We use those 5in1 tablet things (these occasionally fall out of the dispenser - not a great quality machine me thinks). Its an Indesit. Can't seem to find a filter etc. Basically at a complete loss - never had one of the darn things before and didn't want one now, but OH seems to have developed an attachment.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance...

I'd suggest trying the instruction manual sticky at the top there ^^^

Other than that, there has to be a filter somewhere, mine's at the bottom, just a matter of turning it slightly to remove and clean. Check the arms for anything blocking them and clean all round the edges, the seals etc.

My sympathies our just died got to get a new one.

Is yours actually heating the water ?
  • Thanks for the sympathy alanobrien. Yup it seems to be heating the water. I think it might be the fact that the "tablet" often escapes from the dispenser on the inside of the door. Couldn't look last night as out with work. Will be giving it a thorough clean tonight and see what happens. Then maybe see if we can get the door to the dispenser replaced.

Hope you'll be happy with your new one.

You should be able to download or get the manufacturer to send out a new instruction book. I think they're part of Hotpoint who sent us out new manuals no problem.
  • Cheers RedOnRed. I'll look into that. I think they are part of Hotpoint...
  • The tablet is supposed to escape into the bottom of the washer during the cycle.

If you need a new machine, I would recommend Bosch. We have had 2 Zanussi before and 1st class washing only lasted about 18 months then went downhill on both machines. Bosch has been ace.

    Hi,

I think you need to check if your dishwasher already has salt and rinse aid in it, since the 5 in one tablets you are using also contain salt and rinse aid etc.

The idea is to match the level of salt released based on the hardness of the water in your area. It's one system or the other really. Either you use a salt and rinse aid and set the dishwasher to release the correct amount based on the hardness of your water (less for softer water, more for harder which has more mineral content) or you use the tablets and set the dishwasher accordingly. You should be able to check your water hardness from you local water board website, hopefully. I had a stand alone indesit dishwasher for a while and it worked fine, but I guess yours could be run down? Not using the correct combination of salt to your water hardness will, over time, degrade it's performance. Just buying the fanciest tablets you can see on the shelf does not guarantee a better wash, and ultimatley may damage the dishwasher, and yes the tablets are designed to fall out into the dishwasher, that's normal. However some dishwashers reach their peak cleaning before some tablets have disolved. Ie they don't disolve into the water quick enough. A powder / gel and salt combination may well give better results.
Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow.
