That goes a long way to explaining why people have difficulty getting an appointment with their doctor when the NEED to see him/her due to an illness.

All the appointments have been booked the previous week by all these people who like a weekly chat with their doc.

As far as I am concerned that is an abuse of medical services.

The DWP/ATOS presumption of guilty until proven innocent is an abuse of all ill/disabled people. IF the DWP puts it's house in order then things might improve.

Have to agree with you. If I thought I should see my GP every week, she'd be giving serious consideration to my mental health status and discussing my bizarre behviour with me.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • some very usefull information is being posted here

i see my doctor when i need to, not so much these days since we found the right medication that works for me, although i do make an appointment if i have had some test's that i do not understand the outcome of so he can explain properly and see if an answer has been found

i go more often with my DD as hers is ongoing, and her meds are still up in the air, she does see her psychiatrist every 3 weeks and a do ask for a CC to be sent to myself and the doctior so we are always up to date on her care plan

with my reports the ones i do know will be forwarded i just ask for a copy my self otherwise i ask for 2 and drop one off with my doctor so he knows where i am up to

    just one question

since last appealing i have been told my the last specialist im to be sent for an MRI scan, is this something i should be informing the DLA about?

I think that this is an issue which is going to get bigger. Now that ATOS can decide for themselves what you should have said, your GP and your specialist are going to find themselves having to fill in more forms for everyone. I think that some of them already charge for this, and more will have to.

When a GP is requested (by DLA or DWP) to fill in a form - requesting more information regarding a claim, the claimant is not charged by the surgery. The only time a patient is requested to pay is if they themselves ask for a letter, report or other from a doctor. If they are requested to make a report by the DLA or DWP they are paid by those who request the report.

Like I have said before, it seems to me that the only way that you will get a half decent report from the GP is to make weekly appointments to update him of how you have been over the past week.

I am intending to apply for DLA, not because I need the money, but that I have a genuine right to it because of a genuine disability.

Like millions, I don't seek to meet my GP weekly to update their records. I have the tools provided for me by him (medication) and I manage my condition with them.
I never see my GP for anything unless I have to, and then it has to be bad. I never discuss my life situation as it has nothing to do with him. 1'000's have it worse than me. To be honest all he would say is that that is the nature of the beast, just try to live as normal as possible.

You do not need to see your GP EVERY WEEK - unless your GP asks you to!! When I say see your GP on a regular basis I would think that every 6-8 weeks is quite enough to keep them in the picture. My GP requests to see me every 4-6 weeks, otherwise I wouldn't be going so frequently!

You can keep a diary of any difficulties you face or how your condition is within the time inbetween your visits if necessary and inform the GP of any changes or difficulties during that time when you visit.

You say that they are not 'social workers', no they aren't, however, they are responsible for your health and wellbeing. Anything that affects your health is their business.

Regarding medication - in some areas I know that some patients that are on regular medication - having REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS, after they have received a certain amount of repeats are requested to attend the surgery for a REVIEW OF MEDICATION before they are allowed further repeat prescriptions.

I wouldn't inform the DLA that you are having an MRI scan. The only time I would inform the DLA is if there are changes to your condition - as stated in their award letters.

This answers the question I have - "why can't I make an appointment with my NHS GP when I need one".

Obviously because the appointments are taken up with DLA, ESA and Sick Note Britain.

I wonder if people would make weekly appointments if there was a charge of £20 per appointment.

My experience last week at the Private GP surgery with my friend has really made me take a look at using the NHS GP service.

I rarely see my GP. I'm under the care of my consultants and they keep my GP informed of what's happening, and I get repeat prescriptions so I don't need to keep going in to see them. If I need to speak to a GP I can usually call the surgery and arrange for the GP to give me a quick phonecall at the end of their morning or afternoon surgery time - they have time set aside for these calls, and it saves a lot of time for all of us, no need for an appointment.

My husband NEEDs to see the GP about twice weekly, we often have to get meds administered by the doctor and we have to wait to make sure that they have worked because his condition is so unstable.

She tells us when to make his next appointment for, he also sometimes goes without an appointment for emergency ECG's etc. which is much less stressfull for him than a hospital visit because we live 50 meters from the surgery.

Our GP filled in his DLA forms because it was her that pushed him into claiming and she offered to stay on after the morning surgery to do it in her own time and free of charge.

Our GP is wonderful and she seems to really care about her patients.

Well as I have said before, you are one of the very lucky ones in this country! Bit of advice - never move away!!! You have no idea what the real world is like if you even think that the service you get is in any way 'normal'.

......and if you were to claim DLA/ESA or maybe AA, what would you do? Give them a quick tinkle to say that the DWP may be asking for a report?

Or maybe like the vast majority hope and pray that the GP/consultant report will be what you would expect it to say?
