cars a write off. demand money back!!! if the surface of the lobes have cracked away thats a process that WOULD have been present at time of purchase, the dont just ship away for no reason one day. for the mechanic to come and tell you this out of goodness of his heart os something that i would be suspicious of.

    1. car gets px-ex'd.

2.car gets a look over by said mechanic, said mechanics diagnosis afetr some small investigation, cam lobes cracking sell asap.

3.manager sits on fourcourt for some unsuspecting person to pick it out, or he encourages the buyer to purchase wich short warrenty.

    4. manager knows your warrenty wont cover this failure, wear and tear.

    5. you take it in, mechanic recognises car, says to manager hey that scenics with the ruined top end is in, manager tell him its worn and needs new engine make a good story up.

    6. he tells you, dealer makes 12k from you, he sits looking pretty to boast about it to his higherarchy and youve poaid for the christmas bash this year.

now what you need to do is go back tell them nah! under Sales Of Goods Act this vehicle is not fit for purpose its been 4 months ive owned it under SOGA for the first 6 months anything that is not wear and tear (and the cams i would say are designed to las alot longer) you have to rectify without cost to me or refund me my money, i would rather you refund my money as i have LOST CONFIDENCE in you as a company.

Thanks for your advice. I do feel a bit of a mug but there's no way I could've known about this at the time of purchase. Perhaps they saw a single mum and thought aha, prize mug on the forecourt!

Will try to handle this as carefully as I can, but it's just not the kind of stress I need when I have a baby about to arrive :(

If you think £6k is too much call another Renault main dealer and ask them how much they would charge to supply and fit a new engine. They might tell you.

Good luck with the baby BTW.:)

All sounds very suspicious to me........

If they know this just from the sound, then it would suggest it's a common problem!!
However, if it was a common problemid expect to see lot's of on-line info, but I find nothing at all (hmmmm).

Therefore I draw a few possible conclusions:

    1) They knew it was knackered at point of sale, but needed to get shot of it and recoup some cash.

    2) They let loose a trainee on it, broke something and are trying to shift blame.

    3) They're playing some other daft game for profit.

Could "de-laminating" be a misheard "deteriorating"?

Hi - just heard the final diagnosis:

The hardening on the camshaft followers has delaminated and damaged the camshafts. Bits of it have got in the oil and contaminated the whole engine. The garage have never experienced this before.

A new engine is needed, final cost £6782.47!!! Of which Renault will contribute 50%.

Renault Customer Care are considering what to do and I'm to await a call.

I've also called the manager of the dealer I bought it from but he's out of the office, waiting a call too. I plan to return the car under SOGA. Since costs are over £5k I can't use the small claims court, should I appoint a solicitor if they don't immediately offer refund?

I'm also without a car, should I hire one and hope this would be refunded in a court case? Horrible situation :(

Big panic and trying not to go into labour lol!

Have spoken to the selling dealer who denies any responsibility and will not contribute to repair or refund as car was one day out of warranty. He told me not to bring the car to him as he hasn't got room for it and would charge me storage if I return it to him.

I told him the terms of the SOGA under which I was wanting him to deal with this problem but he wasn't interested. This is a Renault Retail main dealer, just washing his hands on it!!

Very disappointed, now will have to appoint solicitors and worry about potentially higher costs :(

edit: Renault Customer Care are again on the case and hoping to improve the situation, they aren't happy with the dealer's response. Watch this space! Let's hope they come good for me before I die of stress :(

You can still take someone to court for over £5k. I do it.

Put the pressure on Renault UK

5 years ago, my cambelt snapped in my Renault Sport 182 Clio

The car had 24k on it.

I badgered Renault UK and they agreed to pay the whol lot

My car had a brand new 2.0 lump put in

It tooks 6 weeks but the engine had to be shipped from the Renault Sport factory in France
If Adam and Eve were created first
.Does that mean we are all inbred

You would be sueing them for £3,391.24, fifty per cent of the cost of a new engine. But £6782.47 for a new engine doesn't sound right.

Things go wrong in all sorts of cars, this not necessarily just because it is a Renault. ;)
