It's not just jc staff there are people like that everywhere you go from shop workers to waiters

True. But it just happens to be the norm with that JCP in particular.

Because the JCP staff are there to do a job, with servility, efficiency and customer service - especially when it's face-to-face contact.

Whatever contempt that other users may have for claimants isn't the point - it's not about claimants.

It's about JCP staff doing their job, and expecting them to do so properly isn't too much to ask.

When I was signing on, it was commonplace at the centre I was at (and apparently still is) to see advisors at empty desks chatting away to each other.

This is while people are waiting, who have turned up early, or at the agreed time they were supposed to.

So, the immediate question is - why bother setting up appointments for people if they're not honoured, and the 'customers' are only going to be left pottering around for at least 20 minutes?

And contrary to popular opinion, some claimants DO have lives and other things to be doing.

You should retract that remark - that's just nasty, and totally unwarranted.

I know a former job centre worker who claims that the unwritten secret to promotion within the DWP was to make it so uncomfortable for claimants that they would no longer take the stress and sign off. This would help promotion.

This wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

If they were "working people" they wouldn't be signing on. The working people are the advisers.

In terms of the staff at Sunderland Central JCP, that's a very highly debatable statement.

I'm available for the next 5 weeks, 24 hours a day on call.

If you ever want to ring me, I will transport myself to my local jobcentre, and sit and wait 20 minutes.

In fact, I may even take a bollocking. Shout in my face for 20 mins.

All I ask for this service is the sum of £65. Hell, for this week only I'll do it for £50.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

Wellington described the British army as the "scum of the earth" at the battle of Waterloo. It seems to some commenters that unemployed people now fit this tag. Well, I'm not buying into this bullying.

    Hi Dogfish

I wouldn't take the negatives too much to heart, there are far more positives and we need to expect judgemental comments as it is a public forum but doesn't make it right i agree
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

    .

JCP staff are definitely not supposed to be servile to claimants, although civility is certainly to be hoped for.;)

The other advisors would most likely have had their own appointments to see. You are advised right at the start of the claim to let the jobcentre know if you are unable to attend-that is, beforehand so that arrangements can be made in good time, rather than calling after you have already missed your signing slot.

Mrs Manda is however incorrect-the maximum length of a sanction for missing an appointment as long as you attend within 5 working days, is 2 weeks, not 26. And you cannot be sanctioned for FTA if you only receive credits.

If you fail to attend and don't contact the jobcentre to give your reason within 5 days, the claim is closed.

    Hi Cassie,

Just a quick Question, do I always see the same advisor, it was my first sign on last week since my appointment, I was told to go to P1 I think, anyways just wondered if it will be the same one,

    thanks
