If you sell your own persoanl items on Ebay - is fine, if your'e worried about the Benefits office asking to see bank statements of monies etc - ask your ebay buyers to pay via postal order, these cant be traced like cheques. Or just simply open up a seperate bank account to allow cheque payments to clear in that, the Benefits office does not need to know about this - unless you are making an substantial amount of money then you would have to declare it.

Ebay is just like doing a car boot but in the comfort of your own home. How many people claim benefits do car boots in order to earn a few extra bucks. Do they declare that? I dont think so.....

Thats called fraud. You are hiding money whichever way you look at it.

While you are taking tax payers money, and opening other bank accounts and only taking postal orders to 'hide' the cash, as you advise people to do, you are commiting fraud....no matter how little or high the amount, you are attempting to hide the money.

Wrong advice for this board, and sadly, it's been left for all to see.

Is the few extra bucks you get from the DSS not enough then? Is it not enough to live on?

This is blatant fraud and not what this site is about - although I am starting to wonder.

Is this what you do then Crazychic - make a second income whilst claiming benefits?

Do you people realise that MORE money was claimed in Benefits than Income Tax was paid???

I hope the whole Benefits system gets taken away from losers who do this and they have to stand on their own two feet.

I think this thread is going the wrong way....

If you are talking about a few pounds, then I personally don't think it's fraud at all. It's simply selling items that you paid for in the first place.

But I suppose it changes it when it starts going into thousands as who has tht many things to sell!!

Selling personal possessions is fine - hiding bank accounts and requesting postal orders is unecessary unless you are trying to hide something.

Nobody can penalise people for selling bits of tat from their house for a few quid, but then why the need to hide it?

Have you read what was implied?

Postal orders, bank accounts to hide any surplus income, all in the name of them not finding out.

Nothing to hide? Nothing to worry about.

Nothing to hide? But using postal orders and making other bank accounts so that money is not included on your bank balance....then you have something to hide...obviously. Thats fraud.

You are right - it began in 2006

Is Fraud not relevant in 2008 then?

It ended in Dec 06, then it was woken up at 1.00am today by someone who didn't even have anything to say. I doubt the original posters are still viewing it, so other than a talking shop it serves no real purpose. And a lot of the comments are duff advice anyway.
  • Just a related question (perhaps) whats the position with money made from online betting and the dwp?,where the winnings are paid direct into your bank account(i`m not talking massive amounts here but a profit of maybe £200 over 3 months),but total capital well under the £6000 limit
    anyone know?
