I sold a few personal items on Ebay a while ago, the benefit office saw amounts credited on my bank statements, queried them...and I had to prove to them where this money came from....copies of the Ebay auction pages etc.....

If you sell your own persoanl items on Ebay - is fine, if your'e worried about the Benefits office asking to see bank statements of monies etc - ask your ebay buyers to pay via postal order, these cant be traced like cheques. Or just simply open up a seperate bank account to allow cheque payments to clear in that, the Benefits office does not need to know about this - unless you are making an substantial amount of money then you would have to declare it.

Ebay is just like doing a car boot but in the comfort of your own home. How many people claim benefits do car boots in order to earn a few extra bucks. Do they declare that? I dont think so.....

  • That doesn't make it right though. I know they can't trace a postal order but they can trace exactly what bank accounts you have so they would see the money going in anyway. I'd keep copies of auction pages just in case. It would be rare to be pulled up on it but ounce of prevention - pound of cure comes to mind.

  • If people are clever enough and have the time to sit at there computers wheeling and dealing on Ebay and making money, good luck to them, it really is like doing some form of office based sales job?

Therefore, it follows, go and look for an office based sales job and get off the bl@*dy benefit system and go out to work like the minority does and pay your own way rather then scrounge a living on the backs of middle England. I doubt the idea will catch on though as idleness is easier then working for a living in todays "Why me" "Its my rights" culture, oh well, back down pit at 2  This is not aimed at people who sell their own goods on ebay. but the ones who make a good living from it and claim benefit.

I bet you're one of the people who constantly moan about the high rate of taxes in this country.
Incidentally, I'm not sure what the penalties might be for your conspiring to commit fraud.

Looks like HMRC are more concerned than the DWP. But they do share records so it's likely in time both will catch up with the cheats. Interesting though the venom here is directed mainly against the benefit claimants and not the middle class frauds. Goodness me we wouldn't want the prisons filled with middle class chavs would we.

Take a look on the Tax Saving Board and you will see criticism against the middle class frauds.
Small, large or giant, fraud is fraud and this website should not be used to enable or encourage cheating.
    Your mileage may differ.

It's much more difficult to find & middle class people don't discuss fraud/tax avoidance scams they're up to.

It's easier to bash the people on benefits, makes them feel good.

Also we still live in a FREE society & a discussion may cover many areas.
It does NOT need you trying to censor discussions, based on your interpretation.

Not at all - I go out to work, and pay my own pay, I dont agree with people claiming benefits and earning cash in hand - Depends on what you sell on ebay and how many times you list will depend on what you make. I was trying to say that by selling your "own" goods on ebay, is just like doing a car boot. I dont have a problem with that - Its when you start buying goods in order to sell - I see is fraud against the benefits system.

Sorry Ive mis-lead what I said.
