The Samsung Galaxy S is by far the best phone I have ever had. I can't see myself going for any other brand if i'm honest.
I bought my SGS direct as I hate contracts and how people get ripped off on them! Virgin PAYG and bills of £2- a month = Laughing.
I can change networks and firmware when I want... ding dang do!
All credits ??? to the original uploader .

No I don't 'need' it, my lovely old Nokia 3210 would serve my mobile phone needs just fine, but yes it is worth it. It's enabled me to get rid of my PSP and NDS + all their games cartridges, and replace them with a tiny (in comparison) iPhone with 100+ games installed that fits in my pocket!0

It's all about apps and people thinking other phones can't do what the iphone can. What does an iphone do that no other new smartphone can? Can an iphone play flash videos and games? Can you drop and drag files? Can customise the iphone? Can you get different models with different features? No. People think the iphone is the only phone you can sync with itunes. People think an iphone is the only thing that can video call. The fact is the iphone is not the best on the market and you are restricted to what Apple want you to do and what they like.
I laugh when i see things like' i lost my iphone 4' or 'iphone 4 roaming' as if it's any different from any phone you take abroad. People like to think they belong to a special club and most of them have no idea about how it works or what technology is used.
There are plenty of phones better, Desire HD,Samsung Galaxy S and the new Samsung and LG phones will be much much better. The same goes for the ipad. It is compared to the motorola xoom and other tablets not very good. Again there are more features and more ways to use All apple and their customers can say is the ipad will run more apps. Doesn't make it better though?0 -
I got a nokia phone for £100, 1/4 the price of the iphone.
I can make calls, surf the net, take pictures and video, download apps.
I don't see what else there is I need to do, so why should I pay more?
I has a touch screen and is about the same size as the iphone, the size being a double
edged sword.
So why would I pay more?0 -
Completely untrue, it's a capacitive screen.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0

I don't get the hype out iphones, or any other touch screen phones to be honest! I know so many people who have iphones with smashed screens. I like to try and keep my phones as simple as, because usually that means less can go wrong with them. I'm a bit clumsy I've dropped my phone loads of times, so an iphone to me would be no good, as I would break it! I've had ipods in the past and always had to buy plastic covers, but they've both been stolen, so not sure if I should get another one!
I have the Sony Ericsson Zylo at the minute - a traditional style phone. When I renewed my contract, the sales person showed me touch screen and qwerty keyboard phones, I asked for one with numbers on, not letters! lol It still has good features on it, music player, camera, internet and games if I buy them.
I understand people wanting their phone to do everything, but what if it gets stolen/lost/broke, that's everything gone, can't play your games, listen to music, takes pictures.etc Also those things are battery drainers, so what's wrong with having a phone and an mp3 player/DS.etc
I have a friend who I describe as an Apple!!!!!. She has nearly everything that Apple has brung out, all the shuffles, nanos and classics as well as the phones. Except the newer ones as she got into debt - which her parents paid off for her! But they've worked with the bank and blocked her account. Apple can be an expensive habit...0 -
So many people blame the mobile phone networks, but it's generally the people who'll sign up for a 24 month contract without looking up the meaning of the word contract who are at fault. When people get into trouble with mobile phone contracts it's generally their own fault, they'll take out a contract for the latest shiny toy then a few months later decide they're moving to the other side of the world or simply can't afford to pay what they agree to and expect to walk away from the contract without paying another penny.
I've got two contracts, one is soon to be 30 day SIM only, the other is a few months into a 24 month contract that I could pay off straight away if need be.
I really don't think we need any more laws to "protect" consumers from themselves, but sometimes I think we'd be so much more better off if airtime contracts and handsets were purchased seperately so people would realise they're completely different things although it would never work like that. People need to realise that just because they've lost, smashed their expensive toy doesn't mean they've got a get out of jail free card for their contract.
I don't think there's anything wrong with buying expensive phones if you can afford it, but I hate it when people enter into contracts just to get a handset, completely ignore the T&C and/or rely on discounts or cashack to pay for them then blame everybody else when something goes wrong.
As for the iPhone, they're an over priced fashion accessory, Apple seem to constantly be playing catchup, the number of things the original iPhone didn't do that was considered the norm when it was launched was unbelievable. Video calling's been about for years, it's just most people don't care. The latest big thing to hit the iPhone in iOS 4.3 is the personal hotspots which has been available for android for ages.
How do you know when somebody has an iPhone? They'll tell you!
The above is so true, anybody who has ever taken a few customer phone calls for any company in the mobile phone industry will have encountered somebody starting a call with "I've got an iPhone...". I'm not a fan of Apple, I'm not a fan of the iPhone, the iPhone has so many flaws, so many missing features (like a decent warranty!), but Apple have done a great job with it. People will queue outside stores overnight, kill, steal, get into debt, trash their credit rating and do pretty much anything for them. No other gadget has such a following.0 -
Hmmm, a moral debate on MSE mobiles site...
Well its safe to say no one 'needs' an Iphone, no one 'needs' and OSF either come to think of that. We need food, water, human companionship and air, oh and warmth/temperature control but aside from that we create our own needs, we create our own desires and lifestyles. Each to his/her own but OP, you cannot assume just b/c you don't value the Iphone that others also don't. For some it is something they are happy to pay for as it gives them peice of mind, again, its not the same for everyone but its not for anyone to judge what choices someone else makes unless it affects other people negativly.
(And no, I don't own an i-phone, infact I don't own a mobile phone at all and don't plan on doing so until I see a fantastic offer...nothing has tempted me yet since my contract ended some time ago, thanks to 3-mobile I got used to not using my mobile and have sucessfully managed to brick the hole it attempted to leave with real life)

I think some people (especially the original poster) need to accept that others WANT an iPhone, or a top of the range car, or an expensive holiday, or a 2nd home etc etc etc. It is not a reason to laugh at them, call them ridiculous etc etc.
If I was a millionaire and wanted an iPhone, I would still want the best deal possible so I'm not sure what the point is.0 -

I got nothing against the iphone, its not about that!
There is nothing wrong with wanting something but can you
afford it? Can the money be spent better elsewhere?
Thats the point im making, fingers crossed by the end of this year
i will be debt free apart from mortgage thats what is important for me. Then maybe I will get an iphone cos i could afford it...
The whole point of this thread is to make people think before they
buy. What Apple have done is create a brand so powerful that people feel that their lives are incomplete without it.
I would love andorid/ms whatever to a hard hitting advertisting
campaign about the features they offer. It would then be a bit
fairer, this will allow the consumer to make a more informed decision.0
