Some people's whole self worth and indentity is tied up in their over indebted house

Twelve years ago on a scale of being materialistic i would have put myself at about 6 out of 10(possibly even 7), today i have got that number down to about 2 out of 10.
I remember back then wondering why i was not happy as i should of been, i had the house that many of my friends dreamed of, along with all the other trappings, nice car, a fireblade in the garage, and golf most sundays, along with all the other trappings etc etc.
Don't get me wrong, i valued family and friends, and i had a strong sense of duty to people that mattered in my life. Too cut a long story short i put a price on happiness, i would be happy when i got this(house for example) or happy when i was able to get that, there was always something i had to get before i was allowed to be happy. You would be amazed with a little research how many people do this in life, how their whole self worth comes from what they own and not what they are inside.
I was lucky enough to have someone come along in my life that pointed this out to me, and without too much training/teaching(and you do have to train yourself) how you could be happy with whatever you had. After all the basis of getting all that "stuff" that cost money was to make myself happy, lets face it whatever we do in life it is to make us happy. So imagine what it was like to discover that you can feel joy if your perspective is right living, even living in the worst nastiest crack den in the UK. And another by product of this change in perspective was that i had got things the wrong way round, happiness never came from stuff, the route to all the things you want is happiness, just be happy:)
Now why am i telling you all this:) i can here my now numerous enemys on here saying.
For those wondering why on so many sites there is a really agressive large group of people who are terrified of house prices falling for the very reasons i have outlined. They will come to this board and belittle anyone that dare say that anything like a property crash could happen. There are posters on here(and you know them) that will tell you that women prefer men with property, or that you are weak and feeble if you do not own property, or that only "real men" own property.
I smile when i see these type of statements these days, because what they are saying is that they are nothing inside without their prop(house).
The big problem in the UK now is that so many people would crumble should a property crash take place, the marketing people and spin doctors and the property !!!!!! merchants have done their jobs well, peoples indendity in the UK revolves around their property, they are nothing without it(but they are and just don't know it).
Again don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with owning a flashy car or motorbike(i still do), or dreaming of getting a yacht or Rolls Royce or even a nice house, but do it for the right reason, and be happy while trying to get it.:)

Thats fine, nothing wrong with that.
But if you was to lose it all tomorrow, could you just dust yourself down, put a big smile on yourself and be happy regardless.
Then you would be a man my son:)0 -

Theres certainly something in that.
It can't be a coincidence that the most vociferous bulls seem to have spectacular cases of "short man syndrome".0 -
I'd rather be crying in a Rolls Royce than in the gutter.:)
Foxy you have some issues. If you have convinced yourself being skint in a Beruit style housing estate is making you happy then fine. Don't try ramming it down everyone elses throat.
I've just come back from a weekend in Pattaya. Trust me, money can buy things that make you happy. We love Sarah O Grady0 -

I think you take things too seriously, who's terrified? As for me yes I have money invested in property so obviously I would like to see it go up un value rather than down (same with my shares), but I'm nowhere near concerned never mind 'terrified'Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

You really are quite an ignorant little man, there is nothing in my post that justifys your statement of me saying being skint makes you happy, trolling as per usual Sibley:T
I would say that today my ambitions are going to cost at least four fold in money than my ambitions of 12 years ago, and yet i am not contridicting anything i have said in my post.
You won't see that though as you are too blinkered(along with Julie and Ghoul) by your deep hate.
You Guys going on what you are saying cannot be happy without wealth, i can
Again, don't get me wrong, i would prefer to have a million £'s than not, but i will be ok without it for certain.0 -
