There are fewer restrictions on turning left (or right for that matter) on VFR, but it is best you go through the NPPL first, before attempting to fly anything.

Flyboy I did not decide to ignore the roadsign. Had I noticed it I would have obeyed it or at least made bl*ody sure no-one would see me do it. I despair again at the apparent philosophy of those sometimes piling in on threads like this. Are some of you clever dicks or voyeurs or children or a mixture of all three perhaps ?

The thread isn't about whether I did or did not inadvertently break a rule - it is about a petty breach instantly costing me sixty quid because some erk lowers himself to the status of a paid trap-door spider for a living. He was not a policeman and he was not there for the public good.

I've driven down there and it's a busy road with a lot of traffic. Evidently restrictions are needed, and without enforcement those restrictions are pointless because people will simply ignore them.
And it is about the way a state is managed in these days when we are being encouraged to suffer cuts for the public good and pull together to lower the deficit - local authorities spend money on these scamera cars and occupants at one end of the scale but turn off street lamps making streets dark and more dangerous at the other.

You might as well say they shouldn't spend money collecting the council tax, because they are not spending enough on street lights. The cars are a revenue stream, which will help PAY for services. Your two complaints are not correlated.
So basically those of you who are laughing at me are suggesting that this is the kind of random policing and enforcement that you would like to experience in your lives of otherwise unbridled freedom and which you think is for the public good because it takes money of dumb Joe Bloggs and me and redistributes it to trap-door spiders and other more streetwise beings who decide who deserves to be targeted next? I have a sense of humour about these things as you can see from my first post, but some of you are ever so slightly sick I think :(

I don't think you should have unbridled freedom to drive through London. It's an old, densely populated city and it has far too much traffic. That said, I did drive into it yesterday having done my research on parking, following my satnav as well as my eyes to try and ensure I didn't take any wrong turnings. I drove because it was cheaper and quicker than the train, but that's another story. Obviously I knew I took a certain risk compared with the train, that perhaps I'd misinterpret the parking regulations, or in the busy streets my car might get damaged. In future perhaps they'll change the rules such that it is no longer appealing for me to do this. If so, c'est la vie - driving in London is basically antisocial and measures that deter it are only really to be ecnouraged.
• NPPL Flyboy? I seemed to have skipped that entirely and consequently as with my driving, I am afraid I might have been both out there and up there before you were born :p ...

PS Please do make sure you know when turning right is mandatory - some rules are sacrosanct ;)

I didn't think one could do IFR in cars. :p

• The last time I got a £60 ticket was in the Congestion Zone when I was doing a relative a favour by taking them door to door to Heathrow and I did not even realise I was in the zone - I thought I was skirting the edge of it to save money :rotfl: ... I am still not clear where I went wrong on that one -.

Not noticing the big !!!!ing red 'C' that is painted on the floor would be a start, or the signs telling you your approaching the 'C' zone and then the ones telling you your in the 'C' zone.

I think in future try and be a little bit more observant with your driving and then you wont cop a fine.

JBH ... another armchair motorist? I shall be driving in four other countries in Europe in the next few days - could you urgently let me know if you really think it might be best for all if I postpone it, Jeff ? I am sure your opinion might be the sagest advice a prospective MSE motorist might receive before the off ... :p

Anyway, back to the job in hand and with only two days before I'd have to pay £120, I paid my hard-earned, easily-lost sixty quid today via the convenient online payment system at www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/payonline mentioned on the pack of the ticket. I had to use my imagination of PCN scams a little bit and chose the Parking Fine link because this wheeze is so new that there was no other valid link offered. After all, it is just an extension of their thinking on jolly Parking Fine wheezes. I knew I was on the right track when the first thing I was then asked for was the PCN number. I know a grubby money-taking machine when I see one.

Of course, I entered an email address for a receipt and when it arrived, guess who it was from?: automailer@e-paycapita.com . In other words Capita ... that money-grabbing, strangely-establishment-favoured-for-decades outfit behind almost all the major government initiatives for separating unsuspecting punters from their hard-earned dosh whilst going about our transport related daily business.

I shall be glad to get away for a few days. (And don't you dare say anything now, JBH or you FlyBoy :rotfl:).

Isn't it time you wound your neck in and paid the ticket?
Better late than never, eh ?

Isn't it time you wound your neck in and paid the ticket?
Isn't it time you wound in yours and moderated your sometimes tedious "loadsamoney" (or, translated beyond the noughties if you prefer: "my pension is more than you earn") opinions on this moneysaving site?

PS I got Range Rovers out of my system when they were "new" in the 70s. No-one saved much money buying one then, and no-one saves much money buying the latest incarnations either, do they? So what's your point for us MSE'ers to enjoy ?

... No point? I'd run along now, there's a good chap.
