No it won't work, most ISPs in the UK offer a dynamic IP address which means you're not neccessarily going to have the same IP each time, I do because I used a premium ISP but the likes of BT, Virgin, Plusnet etc all give you a dynamic IP address. All recording IPs is going to do is show you which ISP the majority of people claiming are on it won't prove anything (with the only aside being if the same IP submits receipts in a short space of time but that could be something like a business anyway)Not to mention the cost of implementing this and automating it to capture IP to the "order" for the probable negligble benefit.

Also, the Tesco fact sheets tell you you must submit your claims online and suggest that, if you don't have internet access , then use somebody else's computer such as the library or internet cafe. So Ips couldn't be used to track individuals.

So do they actually have people manually checking prices on the reciepts? Like little oompaloompas? I thought it'd be automated, Asda's is isn't it?

Come to think of it. What they may do is say if receipts are seen to be abusing the promotion Tesco have the right to withdraw the offer. So receipts with only DTD offers could be seen as an abuse perhaps.

Easy way around that is to do a normal shop with a DTD shop and not split them, you just have to make sure that the prices on the normal shop are the same as Asda or within a penny or 2 because the DTD is on the whole shop. Does that make sense?

Is it fraudelent to go to one shop becasue they advertise an item, like cornflakes for half the price of competitiors ? If you buy loads of packs is that ripping them off ? No people do it every week.
Supermarkets are constantly tying to get us in their doors, by reducing prices, entising us .They take turns at it , people have less money, are more money wise so now they have to work harder.

I usually get shopping at aldi, asda and morrisons.
This week I went to tesco boutght a few dtd bargains of £12 and also bought another shop with no dtd items for £11. So although Tesco gave me £10 back I had spent £ 23 that I wouldnt normally, even although they gave me £10 back they still quids up.
Now normally I would have spent that at asda .

There is a limit to what items will be cheaper, not everyone can make use of the dog food or the baileys , so the number of items that will run on dtd will be limited, and maybe no use to some people.
Then the amount of people who know about this will be limited too- my tesco's is littered with reciepts being thrown away.
So maybe more people have known about it cos of these threads, but loads still dont know .
Tesco maybe have not counted on consumers being a bit more savey than they think.

There are no scams here people are just buying at the cheapest price they legally can.
If they stop there promotion yeah it be rubbish of them, I would imagine they would pay everyone out so far ( as you can still enter your reciepts ) .

However most people will then shop elsewhere , and tesco will prob lose some of their existing customers, there choice .
Then we are no worse off, so no panic they pull it they pull it, other shops have bargains too and we will survive x .

I see what your saying and yes I can see how it would punish people doing normal shops but Tesco has to safegaurd it's business.

Can you imagine doing one huge shop, getting £100 back on a DTD voucher. Going in to Tesco, spending the £100 vouch and £20 cash on the same stuff, getting another £100 back and doing it all over again, making adjustments as Tesco change their offers. I don't think Tesco can afford to do this. Yes they could avoid this by matching Asda prices but they would lose money and what would the point be of matching Asda in all seriousness? Having 2 supermarkets with the same prices.....where's the competition?

I think this promotion is very clever and it's genius marketing. There will be deliberate items (such as Baileys) which are higher priced than Asda. The ultimate goal is to get the customer into your shop, once you have them in your shop the chances are they are going to spend their money. Quite a few people have already stated that Tesco wouldn't usually get their money but because of this they have spent more and not just on DTD shops, but on normal shops too.

I am assuming that the majority of people do a major shop once a week or once a month. Now, with this promotion at Tesco people are going to think, right, lets go to Tesco because of the DTD, my normal shop can't be any more expensive than Asda so what's the point in going there to get those things, so Mr T has taken business away from Asda and this is exactly what they want. They want to be the biggest, best supermarket in the UK and the only way to do that is to take customers away from Asda.....their main rival!

But the whole point of the scheme is to attract and benefit 'normal' shoppers - if those shoppers are penalised then there is no marketing advantage for Tesco and they might as well scrap the scheme totally. Given that the advertising etc has been fairly high profile and expensive - and also the hilarity with which Asda and other supermarkets will react - Tesco will look absolute idiots when the press get hold of it.

I reckon they will put a lot more time and effort into keeping their prices down to around Asda level and possibly fix their till programs so that BOGOF items are flagged at the till and staff are told to INSIST that BOGOFs are sold only as pairs. They might have to take on the chin the occasional lucrative glitch when we take advantage of Asda special promotions in the small 'window of opportunity' before Tesco spot it - it would be a much smaller percentage than it is now (and I don't think its THAT high even at the moment).

    Agreed!

The most important thing is getting the customer in the shop in the first place, you have won half the battle!

Tesco saying we'll have to wait longer for vouchers due to being overwhelmed by voucher claims in no way explains why the pricechecker site isn't working.
