But the whole point of the scheme is to attract and benefit 'normal' shoppers - if those shoppers are penalised then there is no marketing advantage for Tesco and they might as well scrap the scheme totally. Given that the advertising etc has been fairly high profile and expensive - and also the hilarity with which Asda and other supermarkets will react - Tesco will look absolute idiots when the press get hold of it.

I reckon they will put a lot more time and effort into keeping their prices down to around Asda level and possibly fix their till programs so that BOGOF items are flagged at the till and staff are told to INSIST that BOGOFs are sold only as pairs. They might have to take on the chin the occasional lucrative glitch when we take advantage of Asda special promotions in the small 'window of opportunity' before Tesco spot it - it would be a much smaller percentage than it is now (and I don't think its THAT high even at the moment).

They may well take their prices down to Asdas level but I can't see it to be honest. If they do great, because Asda will then reduce their prices, so it's a win win for the customer.

And they cannot enforce the BOGOF.

If they are going to ENFORCE BOGOF's then why dont they just half the price of the item instead of BOGOF?

    2. what time did the email land in your inbox?

An important point to remember in all of this is that Tesco do not get advanced warning of Asdas weekly promotions. Promotion day change at both stores is a Wednesday, so unless Tesco change their day to Thursday they are going to find it very hard to know what the hell to put on offer and what not to.

I despise the BOGOF and 3 for 2 offers, think they should be banned!! Hopefully this will make them just realistically price items instead of having stupidly inflated prices. Oh, and while Im on a rant, wine prices, stop making them go up and down like a yo-yo, just so you can have '50% off!! k, rant over for now.

Come to think of it. What they may do is say if receipts are seen to be abusing the promotion Tesco have the right to withdraw the offer. So receipts with only DTD offers could be seen as an abuse perhaps.

Easy way around that is to do a normal shop with a DTD shop and not split them, you just have to make sure that the prices on the normal shop are the same as Asda or within a penny or 2 because the DTD is on the whole shop. Does that make sense?

Can't see this happenining unless they have some REALLY good evidence as if they pull that TS is going to come down on them with the wrath of god (pushed by Asda and the Asda PR machine would have a field day with it)
  • mine has just landed in my inbox at 9:43 and I input it at 2:30pm on Thursday :-)
