Tesco/Asda pricechecker finds here.......

  • I think (for what it's worth) this is the current situation. T&C's and Pricechecker and pricing is going through a major revamp probably with an extra column or two on Mr T's spreadsheet versus ours saying something to the effect of 'cost price' 'did discount at current price' 'reduction required to current price to reach break even'. By tomorrow morning, for probably the top 500 products that have meant Mr T is 'selling' at less than cost price with DTD discount refund voucher they will be matched to probably cost price when people take advantage of the DTD deal. They will know not everyone will use the DTD process so what they sell, they make a margin, what they sell and is then DTD'd, they clear cost price. This means that they do not have to price as low as ASDA and still make some more margin. For pricechecker, T&C's will be being revised to link to either IP, name & address or more likely, Clubcard so that there is more than 2 links available in the chain (which is the current max if you pay cash, don't use clubcard and use a DTD for £50 or less, meaning you can manipulate the system infinitely). If you don't have a clubcard, the name & address option and showing ID confirming who you are will act as the same check. I don't think they will pull pricechecker but they may not allow as free use as at present and will have a system in place to monitor current A S D A pricing on a continuous basis from now on (which they probably didn't have until now).

A S D A on the other hand, will also be thinking of a counter strategy, as whilst these past couple of weeks haven't necessarily worked in their favour (they are the 'used' party in this equation to press) they have seen a severe impact to Tesco's strategy to counter their own pricechecking system and will undoubtedly formulate a marketing strategy to that effect (just wait for the billboard adverts) and whenever Mr T launches his own strategy, you can be sure that A S D A will probably do something to send us, their mercenaries to sabotage Mr T's plans.

I say this not knowing anything but having a fair bit of business analysis experience before being a Legal strategy manager and it is only my opinion to speculate on, but both Mr T and A S D A are fighting a bloody grocery battle and both will want to win, whether that means sabotage or counter sabotage!

Mr T hasn't got a leg to stand on as far as i am concerned. They came out shouting that they were the cheapest supermarket around....but we sure showed 'em!!...

I think if Asda came out and made the same price promise, along with the same tools to check, we would have all been on here doing the same thing against them with similar results.

Let's not kid ourselves that we're doing this entirely out of a loathing of Tesco. As has been mentioned, we're all looking to make our money stretch further. I'm getting married this year, and I've benefitted from free wine and almost free Baileys - ideal thank you presents. I couldn't be happier.

We would have done the same to Sainsburys or Morrisons too, and I imagine a few on here would have taken on the local corner shop if they had made the same promise without feeling any guilt. :)

On the price checker it states :- "If you want to see just how low our prices really are, simply search for any product in the Price Check box and see how we stack up"

So surely even if it isn't on their price checker but we find an item cheaper they will have to find it on Asda and give us dtd?

Afraid not, it must be on their price checker.

I understand what you're saying but I have not manipulated my screenshots. They are correct and will match the information Tesco has for that day.

I can see your point but that is only for people who are try to defraud.

If my screenshots show the correct info then Tesco would have to produce info showing otherwise and to do this they would have to manipulate the truth..... which as I said before I can't see them getting into that.

Actually I think they have shown exactly that, out of the thousands of product lines there's very few that are significantly cheaper at asda.

Fair point, but i still do not think that they will accept it as a form of proof from us. Has anybody had any success with this (if they have needed it)

    Guess you missed it....

but they wouldn't look so foolish if they state the reason they pulled the offer is because people were abusing it and getting more than the £100 per month limit.

perhaps they are revising the system to make it robust to get around that? they wouldn't lose quite as much money i guess if they figure out how to do that:(

Actually i would say that half the items are cheaper at asda and the other half tesco, so the way this promo was originally ment to work was that by doing a 'normal' grocery shop, either tescos woud come out cheaper or asda would be under £1 different so the vouchers would be meaningless (pretty much). All supermarkets will balance out eventually....
