Thank you, so is it ok just to use one of these batteries, rather than a genuine panasonic one ( which are very expensive), bit weary in this area and not sure what's safe and what's not.
    (

Yes, I use one in my Panasonic, it is actually slightly better than the original one.

Well I ordered the camera, in black from Tesco :j

Bit of a problem on getting a second battery though, went to get this one from the 7dayshop

    http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=108873

But while it lists nearly every other camera it doesn't list the FS30, I emailed them to check and they said the firmware of the camera might not be compatible with the battery. :(

Can anyone confirm for certain that this battery will work, or suggest one that will. Is it really likely to be a compatibility problem or are they just covering their back by saying there could be compatibility issues.

Thanks for all the help guys really appreciate it and I'll be sure to let you know if I'm pleased once I get to play with it.

It might or might not work. Ones on amazon specify the compatablity with the firmware:-

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro-VERSION-SECURE-DMW-BCF10E-DMWBCF10E/dp/B002AMMJ50/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1300310599&sr=8-1

My FS30 came with firmware version 1.1 and there have been no updates on the panasonic website. I haven't bothered with a spare as it seems to last for ages.

    Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks Chris, caught me just in time, was clearly going to waste that £6, clearly there is firmware problems.

Looking on Amazon this one seems to get good reviews

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/PowerPlanet-DMW-BCF10-DMW-BCF10E-Compatible-COMPATIBLE/dp/B002ZP7IWG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1300312855&sr=8-4

And its a bit more but more likely to work it seems, so unless anyone can see a reason not to I will just order this.

To be honest, I don't think that you will need a spare battery, I rarely use mine, I take my camera away to Spain for 3 weeks at a time, never manage to run the battery flat.;)

But you can guarantee that when that shot of a lifetime comes along and you have your camera, the battery's flat!
Also, consider that the best way to use even modern batteries is to run them until the're used up and only then recharge them, as their life is based on the number of recharge cycles they can handle. I wouldn't be without a spare.

Yeah, I appreciate what you are saying about the long battery life ( 300 photos according to panasonic) but I'd rather have the spare and not need it, than not have one and find myself unable to capture that magic moment ( wow now doesn't that sounds cheesy :p).

So I reckon I'll order the one on amazon, everything in the description and comments suggest that there shouldn't be any compatibility problems.
