New, Cheap compact camera advice

Hi all,
Looking for a bit of help choosing a new camera
Currently I have a Traveller DC-XZ6 from aldi, and its around 4 year old, but both the batteries that came with it are now totally shot and I know I could buy replacement batteries, but I'm pretty sure I could get a comparable speced, less bulky camera for not all that much.
SO requirements, umm I want a good brand name, I've tried recently to avoid cheaper alternatives from supermarkets etc, they only lead to disappointment in my experience. And ideally I'd like one that takes regular batteries.
Spec wise I'm not too bothered, I don't know enough to really comment and am pretty happy with the quality of pics I'm able to get with the Traveller.
Price wise, pretty cheap really, preferably under £70 definitely no more than £100.
Thank in advance

apart from using AA batteries that looks like an OK camera, struggling to find decent reviews of it though.
Shrimpy, I love the idea that you're insistent on a "good brand name", as cheap supermarket ones only lead to disappointment, yet you've been happy with the cheap traveller camera bought from Aldi (which was a supermarket last time I looked)- WINUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
I'm guessing this is the one referred to:

Looks pretty good value, just get 4 rechargeable AA batteries with it (2 to use and 2 spare) plus a charger. Don't forget an SD card either. Still should come within budget though.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Oi, I feel very slightly misquoted :rotfl:.
When I said was happy I meant with the picture quality, to give an idea of what I was looking for. I also said I'd "recently" been trying not to go for the lower priced alternatives - I bought the camera almost 4 years ago.
And while the picture quality of the traveller is fine, I'm slightly concerned about the wisp of smoke that comes out the top when the flash goes off.
The camera looks OK,

I have a use a Samsung monitor and TV and am very happy with both, not sure how they rate on the camera front though, I guess that's the real problem I have no idea what makes are considered to be best.
but I welcome opinions on the Tesco camera or any other suggestions, cause I really have no idea.
And Victor, that's exactly what I intend to do, I already have a charger and a few SD cards lying around, so neither bothers me, this one would also need a case by the looks of things. Although some of the reviews I've read suggest it really eats batteries, which is not so good.0 -
i recently bought a Kodak M530 as a reasonably priced, simple point and shoot although it does have numerous settings the more discerning photographer can play around with. It's a shade under £70 from Amazon and so far I'm very pleased with it.

Just bought one of these for my son, and it's surprisingly good for the price paid

So guessing you are all out to totally confuse me, anyone want to suggest any more brands :rotfl:
AirCooledHeaven - The Sanyo looks interesting and compared to the price Ebuyer are selling it on their website its a good deal, but never really heard that much about Sanyo and the description is slightly vague as to what comes with the camera.
Still looking but kinda overwhelmed by the options,.0 -
may be consider a 2nd hand camera, megapixel count isn't any indication of image quality
canon s80 or s90 ... metal body and quality lens, try ebay0 -
Panasonic FS30 (14.1MP, 8X optical zoom) is currently reduced to £99 on amazon. I've got one and I've only ever read good reviews about it:-
