Also for free spyware and EWIDO fans, the latter is being replaced/re-named by AVG, as "AVG Anti-Syware 7.5".

  • Thanks for the link, I wasn't a 100% sure if the new version of AVG was free or not so i'm glad to see it is :)!

I have downloaded AVG 7.5 but it is only "free" for 30 days, do you need to pay to keep it updated as that is what it appears to say? Can you get these updates free - if so how?

Did you download the avg75free_432a861.exe (Anti-Virus) from this page?

That's free and not a trial - I've been running it for months without problem.

Lower on that page is the Anti-Spyware which changes after 30 days to a limited version

Thanks sra thats probably what I've got, think I'll use link in your post for anti-v, probably get rid of anti-spyware when the trial runs out, I've got Norton at the mo but that runs out in about three weeks, it makes my laptop run slow so I'm trying to find really good all round protection for free if thats poss cheers steve

sra -- Just downloaded AVG and Kerio, I've already got Windows Defender installed, any others I need? or is that enough? Do I need anything for Spyware or Malware or are these options on these three, next problem I suppose is getting rid of Norton , its supposed to be a pain - wonderful -Not!

Many thanks for your help - first time I've posted anything on MSE - especially techie stuff - nice to know you can ask somebody who knows what they are talking about without the technobabble which goes way over my head - cheers once again

Same as me. AVG/Kerio/Defender is a great combination.
    I'd also put on Spywareblaster.

I also have Spybot S+D and Adaware that I run every now and again just for an extra check.

There isn't an issue with having several anti-spywares as long as they're not all running at the same time slowing you down
(e.g. Spybot S+D has the option of a 'teatimer resident protection', but I have that switched off since Defender's resident is always running looking for issues)

sra - I think I'll now download adaware and call that it, by the sounds of it this should give better all round than Norton, so does that mean I can get rid of Norton completely in 24 days when it expires.

It might sound like a daft question but how do I rid my laptop of Norton completely when it does expire, what is the quickest/ easiest way to do this for an amateur like me, going by what I've read on here its a pain - is that true - are they deliberately making it hard to uninstall Norton and all its components so that you renew your subcription, or is that my opinion - true or not. I think the techie stuff is great and the people on it know what they are talking about and what is even better is the way you are willing to explain in detail how to do things as we are not all techies, its a great way to learn though. Thanks again steve

I installed AVG a year or more back now and it's warning me that it'll run out in a few weeks time. How do I go about keeping it? Do I need to download it again or just get a new code from somewhere?
