No - you don't need 7.1 That installer will put the full 7.5 on your computer. It is the correct link to use. Those instructions are just there for those people who want to upgrade - You can safely ignore them.

It's just an example of them once again not being clear enough (which is why this thread was started in the first place.

    :)

    It should be.

Make sure avg is up to date. It keeps up to date automatically, but when it's first installed you might have to click update a few times until it says there is nothing left.
  • Just a question on updating avg.
I dowloaded v7.5 tonight and have been trying to run the update (since 6pm!) and keep getting a timeout message. I have used avg for ages and never came across this before. Its getting on my nerves now!

sorry for thicko question. I have norton. what order must I do it all in? ie download and save AVG, then remove Norton and then install AVG?
I once crashed my hdd for 3 days by trying to install another antivirus while PC still had norton (hohum).
does AVG stop before you install or how do you install it?
    thanks.

you need to uninstall Norton, if it's the norton Securiy suite then you will need a replacement free firewall such as kerio downloaded to install as well.

once norton has gone then install AVG and it will take you thorugh all the steps as it installs

How long before someone asks this question again? For some reason stickies seem to be invisible to most users!

that is the reason i came on here lol but thankfully i always check the stickies after getting booted off a forum for breaking rules stated in a sticky!

i think a lot of people ignore them if they regularly use a forumas they think it will just say 'be nice etc'

    As it says here.

A popup saying that support for 7.1 will soon end isn't making it clear enough that 7.5 is free and now available for download.

Thanks sra- a great help- i nearly fell for it.

I have windows defender on my laptop in addition to AVG, a post above indicates a seperate firewall might be advisable.

Any suggestions, i've always wanted to keep the minimum safe amount of anti-virus spyware etc as i've found it slows things down- am i right?

I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.
I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.
Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far!
