I think I have mentioned this before, but our local Sainsbury's has this notice by their disabled bays. :-

"If you are disabled, please feel free to use these bays. To our other customers, thank you for not parking here."

So no mention of blue badges, penalties or fines, and it seems to work. That's a much better approach and it stops PPCs fleecing people for breaking their silly rules.

That is exactly how it should be worded, IMHO, better than my suggestion.

    Well done them! :T

On the other-hand it's the same company that distributed that notorious leaflet 'Blue Badge and Parent & Child Parking Bays - Fine if you qualify, £50 fine if you don't'. I imagine a PPC was behind that. This shows what an evil influence they are.
What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?

If they made all the bays the same size, large enough so people can actually open doors, there would be little if any so called abuse, better planning at the build stage is needed, most car parks are never filled to capacity apart from Christmas times and other public holidays.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

Wish the Conquest Hospital at Hastings was as sensible, they only allow blue badge disabled users.

This from the Mayor of London's office (before the DDA was included in the Equality Act):-

The DDA 1995 requires reasonable adjustments to be made for any disabled person who is disadvantaged by an employer’s or a service provider’s arrangements because of their disability.
In this report we have assumed that any disabled people who are disadvantaged by parking arrangements are Blue Badge holders, and so can use Blue Badge spaces, but this may not be the case and therefore, technically, employers and service providers who provide parking solely for Blue Badge holders may still be in breach of the DDA.

"The problem as I see it is with you and firebird20, who seem to think that every person is looking to use a disabled bay if they can get away with it!"

I NEVER said that at all please do not "label" me as the same as Firebird20.

You are def over reacting if you are going to slag me off in that way ..when you know fine well which side of the PPC discussion I am on !!

    Yep. Why not?"

Why not ..because there is not a genuine NEED that is why not ..surely the spaces should be used by those with a genuine NEED.
IMHO a disabled space is for a disabled person who NEEDS it not any disabled person ..why is that opinion so wrong ?

"But who am I to question the need her GP has obviously seen? Who are you to question it either?"

I wasn't questioning it ..merely pointing out that the DfT guidelines does not seem to allow for it.

The whole tone of your responses is over the top and unwarranted ..save it for the PPC posters ..not those of us who are prepared to have an open mind and discuss both sides of the issue.

This board is rapidly losing the plot with OTT responses and paranoia .
To the point where its credibility is being damaged.. thank fully I got the advice I needed already ....

key words "MAY not be the case " and " technically ....MAY still be in breach"

If a PPC were to write this they would be torn apart for their use of the word MAY but if the Mayor's office writes MAY it seems that you take it as "ARE" possibly because it suits you.

I'll leave those who still have open minds to draw their own conclusions ....

PS Still anti PPC whether you care to believe it or not .

Silly man, I haven't said anything supporting the way his "ethical " company operates and I have sucessfully ignored 3 faked PCNs from PPcs.
Just for clarity regardless of how I believe PPC advisory disabled bays should be used the fact remains that a person can still qualify as disabled under the Equality Act without qualifying for a blue badge and therefore the car park operator should allow them a reasonable adjustment i.e. use of a disabled space
. Therefore I believe as it stands ticketing such a person because they don't have a blue badge may well be against the law.
Take note Firebird that is proper grown up CRIMINAL law not the wishy washy civil route.
I'll have a bet with you right now that you will find your self dragged into a criminal court on this one long before any PPC takes me to a County Court.

Just because we don't agree on everything doesn't mean that people are going to start paying these invoices ..face it firebird it's all coming unravelled the public are becoming more and more aware and they are not going to take it anymore .
The recent successes in counterclaims and a PPC being criminally prosecuted suggest the courts aren't having it anymore either.
    :)
