Many years ago I grew alpine strawbs from seed, they were OK but not really anything to rave over

Having read this thread, and having a T & M £10 voucher I have just ordered "Sarian" from them

Not expecting miracles as I find T & M tend to "big up" some ordinary / mediocre plants, but for free I am willing to give them a go, and why not?

i just love odd coloured fruit and veg :D

A man / woman after my own heart. I always try & grow the alternative colour, as did my granddad, so for me I always knew that rasberries [sp?] were yellow, it came as a surprise to find the majority of folk knew they were red

I did same with my kids, and it also came as a surprise to my daughter that the majority of tomatoes are red and not yellow, likewise courgettes, green not yellow

Not stopped me though, black / purplish tomatoes, still those yellow rasberries [thanks granddad], black French beans, yellow beetroot, white radishes etc

60p per plant is ok if you want small quantities. give elsanta a swerve though.

Can I ask why you don't want to use Elsanta?

I think it is because Elsanta is the supermarket favourite, hard as bullets so never squash, not much flavour, but for a supermarket, nice red non bruising fruits that will travel 100s of miles without damage & then sit on a shelf for days

Best avoided in preference to more tasty ones

the elsanta you grow in your garden will be better than the supermarket because you pick them ripe, unlike supermarket strawbs which are picked unripe to extend shelf life.

Having said all that, there are far far better varieties than elsanta (in fact all 1,000 of them).

To me, elsanta taste like a manurey sludge. But then I`m a strawb addict.
