  • If there is a hiss on removing the oil filler cap (as earlier post) .It means that the crankcase breather is blocked , probably nothing to do with the pistons or rings. If the rings were letting by you would be followed down the road by a large cloud of blue smoke

So you think it is fine that oil wasn't changed (or even checked I bet) for 2 years after the car was purchased (irrespective of mileage)?

Remind me not to buy a car from you.

Tell me why it would make a difference? Fair enough if it does lots of short journeys but there would be no difference between a car that does a 120 mile journey once per week (12,500 miles over 2 years) over one that does a 40 miles commute a day 5 days a week (around 12,000 miles per year).

Its the dipstick that causes the hissing.
  • same diagnosis, crankcase pressurized, blocked breather

  • Hi Mrs E
Please could you help me with a simple question about the trade-in your daughter is doing.... I also have a 2009 Ka which I'm trying to trade in with my ford dealer - however it couldnt go through as I dont have a key code card - apparently they dont work the main key and 2nd key system anymore and now give you a key code card (looks a bit like a credit card - ford written on one side, picture of a key and some numbers on the other...) I want to know if your daughter has one (im dubious that I ever had one and since I dont have it the deal cant go through or ill have to pay £1000 to change all the locks etc etc) Please if you could help me that would be great as im at my wits end!!!

Trading in this car will either be impossible or result in an awful deal - the dealer wouldn't be able to sell it and it'd be seriously devalued at auction.

Can't you buy a key card? Vauxhall have a similar thing which you can order for about £25 with your V5 and proof of ID

Hi, thanks for the reply. I dont know, Ive never heard of this before. My dealer was ademant that without it noone will touch the car and the only way around it is to do the £1000 locks etc etc. So is it a V-number that im actually needing?? Ill ask my dealer tomorrow and mention the vauxhall thing
  • 1. what oil did her BF put in? 10 30 - 5 40 or what? fully synth semi synth, cheap and nasty tesco oil or a named brand? you cant put any old oil in a zetec/duratec theres a specific grade in wich to stick by as other type of oils can cause problems and or mixing oils will cause problems.

a blocked breather is a possabilty but doesnt explain the oil in cyl 4, back pressure could have caused it to pass through the rings, but a build up inbetween rings can have its problems in it own right. plus if pressure stopped the valves from fully opening and closing they could have bent causing damage to piston 4 and the cam lobes ,valve stem seals.

just to clarify WHO CHANGED THE OIL as first you say a garage did it the you say her BF did it?

or is it a case of her BF works in said garage and did it in spare time?

Someone can afford a new car, but cant afford a service, thereby devaluing it by thousands of pounds?, even if nothing had gone wrong?
