+1.
Only problem is that £11,000 car is probably now next to worthless.0 -

How can it be worthless?
If she has it repaired then its worth what it would have been before this.
I posted on here for a bit of advice for someone, not so half a dozen key board warriors could take the mick.
This is supposed to be an advice board, not a public ridiculing forum:(0 -
Thats exactly my point. Skint people buying expensive stuff on tick invariably leads them to be worse off, not better.0

You got lots of advice, you just dont like a lot of it. Doesn't make the advice any less valid. All the legal ways forward are going to cost some. Sorry.0

I didn't get lots of advice, I got lots of abuse to pass onto my daughter.
Their is really no point telling her its all her fault, shes an idiot for missing a service at 5500 miles (she is aware of that).
Advice is what helps & assists you when you are in trouble, not kicks you in the teeth when you are down......0 -

Bit of a stupid comment really - and uncalled for. I'm sure the vehicle in question can be fixed at a reasonable cost and until someone has had a proper look at the engine no one can say for certain who's liability the repair bill is.
I would put money on missing the service not being related to the problem though.0 -
Assuming ford decline fixing it goodwill which is a very slim chance but wirth a few letters. Get the oil flushed and changed and the ccv filter replaced and run it for a wee while using the full rev range, an italian tuneup. If the ring is just stuck it might free off. I would hope the garage tried this first is why i never mentioned it to begin with but you never know. Have the garage do a leakdown test and check with a borescope it might just need a head. Next cheapest method is find a smashed one on ebay and message the buyer with an offer for the engine, maybe £750 ish and ask the garage to swap it out.
Remember its your responsibility to inform the dvla of the new engine number. Try not to spend too much on it as the resale value is scunnered.0 -
