The article does not state the abudance of geographical dispersion of 'affordable' properties - it is focusing on the average position which for analysing macro-economic position of the property market it is revelant.

If however you were to say to me that on average the cost of a property is XXX (say £80,000) I would be tempted to use this as a benchmark when assessing local property prices with a view to re-locating if necessary.

As for the sacrafices individuals need to make - again this is a micro (individual) matter and irrelevant for this discussion. It is infeasible to generate a statistical analysis of a nation built upon what each individual is willing to sacrafice. Nor is it the topic for discussion. What one individual can/is willing to sacrafice will invariably differ from another - it is irrelevant and pointless to analyse the property market from such largely qualitative characteristics.

Also this is not Rightmove - please post links if you want to highlight a property for an arguement put the pictures are not necessary.

    BRITANIA BS

    £100,000 purchase price

    £15,000 deposit

    3.99% lifetime tracker

    30 yr capital repayment mortgage

    £405.31 pm

You could clean residential ovens at £20 a pop on the side, say 10 per week, = £800 pm.

I had 2 jobs when I was a ftb, and?

I could find anyone a job right now - they will be given a phone, a desk and a stack of numers. Sales jobs are always available as the staff costs can be covered by the value added sales made.

To be fair, it does say "in need of complete renovation".

    Pretty decent size garden too.

EDIT: ah you edited your post. Sorry but a FTB who plan to have a family should be fine in a 2 bed house with a garden - at least at first.

    So 85k of loan needed.

Basically you are saying people with a household income of less than 21k shouldnt apply?

Or shouldn't be allowed to have kids?

    Lovely.
