I can only post my personal experience. I bought my first house in the seventies and it was 5.3x my income now the same type of job would pay about £30k and the same type of house would sell for £200k max more likely £180 6 to 6.6x. If you wanted to use the same multiply you would have £160k which would get you a 2 bed flat in same area or 2-bed terrace 3 or 4 miles away. So yes more expensive but not impossible.0

You see, this is the problem with your approach. Broad brush academic assumptions are largely blind to the reality of the real world situation.
All that matters, is real people, with hard work and a little discipline can buy a home in plenty of NICE locations.

I cannot aford my ideal location, most of us cannot, but a very quick search found plenty of properties in locations within commute of Truro (as I said my first place was a 50 mile drive to work).
I filtered within 15 miles on Rightmove.

I cannot aford my ideal location, most of us cannot, but a very quick search found plenty of properties in locations within commute of Truro (as I said my first place was a 50 mile drive to work).
