You could also bear in mind, that while the seller is waiting for you to pay, he cannot readvertise the item. I've been in this situation, as a seller, several times and if you're short of cash it's not funny!!!!

If you dont intend paying, then dont buy!

I contacted the seller the day after to tell them that I no longer wished to proceed with the purchase. The seller also had dozens of both items in stock. Still has.

Please please please OP post your username so i can block you

The seller was well within their rights to issue you with a non paying bidder strike, you didnt want to purchase the item so you didnt pay, the seller hasnt forced you to complete the purchase they have just taken the correct steps to get their fees back which by the way depending on the value of the items you decided you no longer wanted could have cost abit. why should the seller be out of pocket because you decided at no fault of the sellers not to complete the sale?

Good luck getting out of your strikes, personally hope you dont because then you cant bid on my items as my settings are set tight enough to stop people like you.

I've just done an ebay search on gloomendoom, unfortunately that's not an ebay user name, as I had the same idea!

I think this is getting a bit out of proportion here...
the OP had the right to cancel under DSR, it's a right given by law, no point in treating them this way, as if they are a scammer or a danger to the human race.

Both OP and the seller have followed both DSR and Ebay's rules.
Buyer was able to cancel and not pay (without any pressure from seller or eBay), seller was able to get their fees back, all sellers are able to block OP if they want to.
    All legal.
OP did not threat anyone's livelihood.
Seller did not try to force them to pay.
Can't see any bad guys here, and OP would not be able to buy from me so they are not a problem as far as I'm concerned
Not worth getting stressed for a buyer cancelling, not paying, being a PITA etc... it happens all the time, it's part of being a seller.

Yes it does happen all the time and is a part of being a seller but some of us are selling things because we really need the cash and this type of thing doesnt help at all!

I think you're exageratting by suggesting that we're saying this person is a threat to the human race. We are just as entitled to our opinion as you are.

It was a very large business seller... who should be well aware that the distance selling regulations apply to all BIN items (including those listed by private sellers having a 'clearout') as they sell online outside eBay too.

Under the law, Buy It Now does not mean Buy It Now. A purchaser has seven days to change their mind and cancel the contract should they wish to do so, for any reason.

I think you are confusing distance selling regulations, and ebay rules.

Under the distance selling regs, the seller has allowed you to cancel the sale and not go through with the purchase. i.e. they aren't going to pursue you through the court for payment.

Under ebay rules, then if you buy something, you are committed to buy, whether that's a BIN, or an auction. By changing your mind, you got two strikes for not paying, and it allowed the seller to get their insertion fees back.

If you don't want your strikes (which will prevent you bidding in most auctions), then pay for the items.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I think the fact you said the seller was acting outside the law got everbody's goat.
Plus the fact that you know all about the regulations, but haven't the brains to sit and think if you really want something before clicking a button.

While you're faffing the seller could have sold to a real buyer, they will also still have to pay their listing fees.
Luckily though it was 2 items so you have now barred yourself from buying from a lot of sellers.
Most people do consider whether they actually want to buy something before pressing the button.

When you click the BUY IT NOW option it clearly states....

You're agreeing to a contract -- You will enter into a legally binding contract to purchase the item from the seller. You're responsible for reading the full item listing, including the seller's instructions and accepted payment methods.
