If it's your signature, don't you remember taking the agreement out??? Think man, think! Or would you have been foolish enough when you wrote previously, to sign your letter, therefore enabling them to copy your signature on a made up agreement?? Wouldn't put it past them,I've had dealings with HFO and wouldn't trust them as far as I could spit...

Yeah, this may be the case, I certainly dont remember taking a loan out back then. Just dont know where I stand now. Can they continue to hassle me for the money, even though it is statute barred, they have even included a letter stating that the payments were first missed 1 month after the loan was taken out back in 2000, which to me shows that it is statute barred.

You can send them the statute barred letter.

It would then be up to them to prove it isn't.

With real evidence of a payment from you that is. Debt collectors will often try to make one up, so don't be fooled if they try that. Nothing short a proper evidence is sufficient.

  • Send them the SB letter, any problems from them report to OFT for the attention of James Waldron. Pursuing an SB debt is against OFT guidelines. Google OFT for contact details

Also there is a new website - not for profit or gain, which has been set up to enable people to campaign against HFO who must be one of the worst examples of a company who buy debts. It is well optimised so if you google HFO or Turnbull Rutherford you will find it.

Also check out Consumer Action Group as you will find lots of friends there

    Good luck

I received a letter from HFO services yeaterday. It was marked reminder and then started "As you have been informed". I have never heard from them before. The letter went on to say that they have been sold a debt by Monument in my name which amounts to £7843.57., and to ring immediately so that they can make arrangements for payment.
I have never heard of Monument before. I looked it up on the internet and it is a Credit Card Company. I do not have a credit card! I left a message on their answerphone and asked them to call me back ASAPand telling them I did not know this company. I then rang the Action Fraud line thinking I had been the subject of identity theft. I have also told the police.
As I am a disabled pensioner I am finding this very distressing.
To date no-one from this company has rang me back.
Do you think this will go further? Am I likely to be harrassed?
I live on my own and am now scared stiff having read this forum.

    Hi.

It would be better if this was in it's own thread.

I'll move it into one and post a link.

Hi all. Long time no speak. Had heard nothing from HFO until last night. They called me out of the blue at about 8.30 regarding the letter that I had sent. They stated that they were calling me from the fraud department, stating that they were trying to determine whether I was Not acknowledging debt, or whether I was admitting it was mine and continuingg to say it was statute barred.
I immediately denied acknowlegdgement of the debt and demanded that they only contact me by mail, once again.
They then replied by saying that they would immediately write to me and told me that I had to send them proof of my ID on receipt of their letter so that they could determine whether or not i was liable.
Dont know what to do now as am getting fed up of them. Heard nothing since April, thought they had gone away. Please advise

HFO are being reviewed by the OFT who are minded to remiove their licence, it is that bad.

It does not matter whether the debt was fraudulently obtained or whether the you took the loan out; the debt is statute barred and they are breakig the OFT rules chasing you in any way after you have told them it is SB.

Read this thread on HFO https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3254530

Report them to the OFT and send a copy of the letter to HFO.

If they ring again, ask the name of the person calling and advise them you are reporting them and HFO to the OFT.

You don't have to send them anything.

In fact, them demanding that you do is another breach of OFT guidelines.

Have a read through this link:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2992820

If they write again, then report each and everything from there that they break to the OFT.
