  • Shaney some information for you.

A DRO is a cheaper solution to bankruptcy but effectively is the same.

A debt relief order is an order you can apply for if you can't afford to pay off your debts. It's granted by the Insolvency Service and is a cheaper option than going bankrupt.
You must have debts of less than £15,000 and a low income.
A debt relief order usually lasts for a year and during that time, none of the people you owe money to (your creditors) will be able to take action aginst you to get their money back. At the end of the year, you'll be free of all the debts listed in the order.
You can't apply for a debt relief order if you:
    • own things of value or have savings of over £300
    • own a vehicle worth more than £1,000
    • have a private pension fund worth over £300.
To apply for a DRO, you'll need to contact an authorised adviser who checks whether you meet the conditions and then applies for the order on your behalf. The order will cost you £90 but you can pay this in instalments over six months.

£450 for you advisor to put package together for court.

Then you have to pay another £450 for the offical reciever. There is a £150 court fee but this is free if you are on benefits.

You also might try the three Nottingham MPs as well. All three are Labour and may well be a sympathetic. I know you are not necessarily one of their constituents, but since the company was based there, they might just be interested. Especially if they think there might be something they can use to embarrass a government minister. Your local MP might be interested as well.

Details of the Nottingham MPs are here:

Mike for anyone going bankrupt. You do not need to pay an advisor to complete court forms. The posters on the Bankruptcy board on here will help you complete them yourself.

Oh, and as of 6th April 2011, the rules are changing so that modest pension funds over £300 will not stop you being granted a DRO.
