Cost's £3.80 to park anywhere in town, no change is given at the ticket machines and how many people carry 80p in change? where does that extra 20p go?
    Thieving scum f*ckers......

Most modern ticket machines take payment by either card or text.

You don't have a " my space ", it is a public highway.

If you want a " my space " then buy a property with a driveway.

I did this, but still have the tools who park over my drive when I'm at work, so when I get home I can't use it anyway, and yet they aren't doing anything wrong!

The Street my parents live on had the same problem, all the residents complained to the Council and it now has a Residents Only Parking scheme in place. I would rather pay a fee to be honest and know that I can get parked, but that's just me!

I live (and work) in Birmingham, and it's amazing how many cheap car parks there are if you dont mind walking a mile or two to the office... there are a few that are £2/£3 all day, but a return bus ticket would cost £3.60 (and the journey would take twice as long...) I dont use the car parks as i share a lift in with my old man, and then get a bus home... I'm the stupid one however, as on the odd occasion i do have to drive it, i still use the car park over the road from my office that costs £1 an hour...

When I used to work in London, I would have a meeting in the City every two weeks on a Friday. If I took the train, it would take over an hour and a half, sometimes much longer. I would need to drive to the station and pay for parking, that would take twenty to twenty-five minutes. I would then have to change trains three times and then walk from the station to where the meeting was being held. The whole cost would be about fifteen pounds.

I knew of an all day car park (a bit of wasteland with a gated fence), near to where the meeting was being held, it costed about five pounds to park all day (this was a while ago ;)). The car park was attended, so it was relatively safe. The time to drive from my house to the City of London, was about an hour and ten minutes, the return journey, as most people who drive thorough London on a Friday evening will attest, was much quicker, about fifty-five minutes, the cost in diesel was about eight pounds (I said it was a while ago :D) at the very most. It cost less than the train, was quicker, far more convenient and I could smoke (I was a smoker back then) as many cigarettes as I liked, listen to whatever music or radio station I wanted to and stop off to get a bottle of milk on the way home. :)

So I move out to the suburbs instead, so I have to use my car if I want to go *anywhere*, thus massively increasing congestion. Nice one.

Using your car massively increases congestion? Surely 1 car can only increase congestion by a tiny amount? ;)

We have this problem in our street because we`re close to town, plus a massive carpark at the bottom of our street, which is hardly used !! Its so bad we hardly ever get our bins emptied in time simply because the waggon can`t get down the street. Had no help from council, so we started taking action ourselves. We put posters in our windows and started blocking the cars in, that did`nt go down too well with them lol but they got the message !! Its not stopped it but its not very often they park on our side of the street now. They park across from us where there is`nt any houses.

Norman Castle - I'm not asking for a parking space outside anyone's house. I don't have a right to (and it wouldn't be fair to tell them to move house!) but my point is that these car owners don't have a right to the space outside their house either.
This reminds be of people moving in near airports then complaining about aeroplane noise!

bdavies - If you're disabled, you may need the use of a car, and a space right outside your house - apply and the council will paint you one! And yes, you may see good public transport outside your door, but how do you know where these parkers are coming from, this is my whole point, it's the city dwellers who have the good public transport, and facilities within walking distance. And yes, a terraced house further out of town WILL be worth less than a terraced house in town, and there'll be less pressure on parking even without a driveway.

Graham29 - as you've read above, you're not allowed to park over peoples' driveways - report them, get friendly with a parking attendant!

I thought you were allowed to park over a driveway as long as no car was parked on it?

They have loads around our way.

And how does the owner of the driveway get back into his driveway with you blocking it? DUH!
