Woman had a go at me this morning

there isn't much free parking in the town where I work. There is only 1 long-term car park too, and that's expensive, so as you can imagine, the residential streets get parked up by workers. There are some with residents only parking, but others are free for all.

I drove along my favourite 'free for all' parking street this morning, saw a woman all dressed up for work getting into her car. Pulled over and indicated so I could park there once she'd pulled out. Ooooh she didn't like that! Went into slo-mo mode, really obviously on purpose, got out of car and fiddled about with windows mirrors etc for about 10 minutes until she gave up and drove out. On the way out she gave me a right earful for 'stealing her space'.

Me? I just looked at my nails, yawned, ignored her through the whole performance, quite happy to sit and wait till she got bored and moved off. This is a public street, no restrictions on parking, she lives there and while I appreciate it must be irritating to have commuters parking there, ultimately, that's just tough imo.

What do you think? Was she being unreasonable? Was I unreasonable?

Just point to your valid tax disc if she has another go.

She'd soon complain if she had to pay for, and mess about getting, a residents parking permit!

I get a bit annoyed when someone's in my space but only because I need to park close for hubby so he doesn't have to walk too far to the car as we don't have a disabled spot.
But in general I don't mind, if I'm on my own and parking at home if someone's in my space it doesn't matter to me I just park further down.

You weren't being unreasonable at all, it sounds like you were quite patient.

She was being unreasonable for giving you an earful in the street. As others have said, it's a public road, so it's first come, first served. If this silly woman really wanted to stop you parking there, she could have left her car there and got public transport instead.

If you are fortunate enough to return to your car just as she shows up wanting her space, simply go through the same "slo-mo" procedure she did for you, only take 20 minutes this time!

I can see her point if she gets home and can't park outside her own house because of tight commuters... ;)

I think you were right she was wrong.

If she was going to work she really shouldn't have cared, when I go to work I don't mind a visiting student taking my space (even though they are legally not supposed to because the road is access only) because I know he will be there most of the day and stopping other residents from taking my space, probably leaving just before I get home - perfect! same for your woman - or should be.

If she was only going out for a short time you can understand her annoyance, but that's life she needs to accept it or move.

Come to an arrangement with her, she dosent leave in the morning till you arrive and then fill her space, then at night you dont leave until she gets back and give her the space back, easy :D or it would be if the jobs times matched :p

Is that in lieu of payment for parking?
