  • My beautiful 9 year old boxer Ralla, died in my arms in the vet waiting room yesterday. We are so upset and will miss her so much.
We live in germany (my husband is in the forces) I haven't had the vet bill yet, but have had a leaflet for the crematorium costs and they are really high. I want her ashes back as she was a very loved part of our family. The crematorium costs alone are €460 (that's for collection and return to the vet, a date to cremate her and for her to be cremated alone. Also have to pay for an urn...minimum €70!)

I feel that the company are taking advantage on our grief but I can't leave her behind. We are posted in 2 weeks. To go on a new adventure to Canada. She was perfectly healthy until last week.
    RIP Ralla. Xxxx

I think this sum is about right - it compares to what my vet bills were for PTS and I didn't even get my pets ashes back - never mind in a box with their name on!

    Sorry for your loss.

I had my cat individually cremated. It cost about £100 and I think the box was extra.

I couldn't bear to scatter his ashes either so I've left instructions that when I go, he goes with me. Sounds daft, doesn't it.

Not daft, all my animals are in caskets on my cabinet for when I go too. I paid £154.64 in July for having Tiger (cat) pts at the vets and for individual cremation. He came back in a small wooden box but no name plate. The actual euthanasia was about £50 as I recall so the rest was crem fees. I had a Golden Retriever cremated through a different vet in May (he died at home so no vet fees) and it cost £148.73 and he came back in a wooden box with a name plate. Obviously the 2 different vets use different crematoriums as the caskets are vastly different. Sorry for your loss Neffy and to all you posters who have lost animals, my thoughts are with you. Most of my dog stuff is now being re-used by the new puppy but I got rid of all Tigers stuff (except his collar and tag which are in his memory box) apart from his scratching post which is on the landing. I just don't seem able to part with it.

Our last dog cost just over £100, our vet doesn't charge for putting animals to sleep, his ashes came back in a little box with his name on.

I am sorry for everyones loss on this thread. Its a thing we all have to do at some point, and its one of the most upestting thing I have ever had to do.
When I lost TJ the Vets and his staff all knew of our wishes as we had disscussed this at an earlier date.

If you use a regular Vet practice and have a furfriend thats ill it is a good idea to disscuss things so when the time does come it will be on your record and they can sort everything out for you. Saves you the upset when your mind isnt really on that sort of thing.

My Teej was cremated and his ashes returned to us within 3 days. Our Vet and his lovely wife took Teeg on his final journey themselves and at no extra cost to us they asked for us to be reunited with Teej asap.
We were given a certificate stating beyond all doubt that we had TJ's ashes, that also put our minds at rest. It is a question you need to ask.

He is sat here on my PC desk in a lovlely polished box with his name on. If you ddint know where to look you would really see him it isnt in your face so to speak.
Everyone knows his ashes are to go with me when my time comes.

As for the cost, I honestly couldnt tell you, I just passed my card over a couple of weeks later, yes I did say a couple of weeks. The staff knew why I was there and just took my card and sorted it, I didnt ask how much and hubby never said.Thats another good thing about our Vet practice is they dont hound you to settle the bills, they never have.

We still use the same Vet for Ollie, but I cant go into the treatment room as of yet, too many memories in there for me.

I noticed this is an old thread but I hope my post helps some one xxx
RIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Always in our hearts xxx
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

I had my beloved dog Jack put to sleep on saturday. I took him to the vets myself and have paid for a private cremation which I presume means on his own. His ashes come back in a cardboard tube as I want to bury them in my parents grave while no-one is looking. Then I will have a place to remember him. Total cost was £180.

I am devastated because although 10, he was healthy but had developed a scream like howl over the last couple of years that my neighbours complained about bitterly. The vet agreed there was nothing he could suggest so I took the heartbreaking decision to put him to sleep.

I miss him so much but feel so guilty for what Ive done. He was everything to me. My neighbour sent me vile messages saying it was my fault as a bad owner. I just cant stop thinking about him lying there in the vets until tomorrow when they come to collect him. Meanwhile I'm still next door to the neighbour from hell and I just can't bear it. :(

My dad died suddenly in November and I feel as bad over the loss of Jack as I did then. At least with dad, i had the comfort of knowing he was tired and ready to go.

I note that this is an old thread for which I have also posted a reply 2 years ago. Still, roll on to 2013, and I'm sad to say that we had to put one of the 2 remaining cats to sleep at the beginning of this month. The vet came to our house, and arranged the cremation for us. She got cremated (not individually) and ashes came back in a simple presentation box (cardboard). The bill came to £154.00. Having the vet come home was worth every penny to me. Saved us the last trip to the vets. I don't think I would have coped and it was such a peaceful end to the cat too.
