Cost of Euthanasia/Pet Cremation

As you can see from my signature, I very sadly had my cat pts recently.
I had the vet call here so as to spare him a car journey which in itself would have stressed both of us out, and the final bill for the call out, putting him to sleep and individual cremation came to around £256.
I was wondering whether this was a reasonable price to pay?
Obviously, at the end of the day what really matters is that I tried to do the very best I could for my darling boy, but having never been in this position before, I have nothing to compare it to.
I have now received Marmaduke's ashes back - they were presented in a nice wooden box with a brass plate engraved with his name.
I wasn't told what to expect at the time and was far too distressed to even think to ask.

So sorry for your loss
It does cost a lot more to have an individual cremation - I didn't bother when I had Spook put to sleep as I didn't want the ashes back. I think my friend paid about the same as you when she had her cat put to sleep.0 -
I'm sorry for your loss.
I recently lost one of my little dachshunds. He died in his sleep, aged almost 14 and a half, so there was no vet involvement and therefore no vet fees to pay.
I took my little boy to the pet crematorium for an individual cremation, with the deluxe casket, which was the next step up from the basic casket. The crematorium bill came to £127, but it meant that I could bring Oliver back home, where he belongs.0 -
Sorry for your loss, I lost my 19 year old cat last September.
I had him cremated, the vets quoted me about the same as you've paid if I went through them.
But I arranged it myself after the vet had put him to sleep at home. I drove him and picked him up from the crematorium and I saved £50. But that wasn't the reason I did it that way. I wasn't happy with the vet in question.
But yes the price does sound about right.0 -
I paid £185 for euthanasia and individual cremation for my westie dog.0

I had my 20 year old cat pts in December. I took him to the vet's and asked for individual cremation as my dd wanted the ashes back to scatter herself. It cost about £190.
In retrospect, I wish my dd hadn't wanted the ashes back as scattering them was like losing him all over again!LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012

Thank you to everyone who has replied - I'm still reeling from the loss of my furry friend.
Not sure yet whether I'll ever have another as this has been so hard :-(RIP Marmaduke 04.02.11, MIsty 09.06.12 and Rufus 19.7.24 very, very sadly missed xxx

Really feel for you. We had our Rhodesian Ridgeback put to sleep at 5.30am this morning, she was almost 10 years old. We are absolutely gutted. Haven't stopped crying all day, the house is so empty without her xx0

Aww it does get easier.
I was in bits when I lost my cat in Sept, but it does get easier. I still get upset sometimes and I do think about him every day. But time will heal.0
