Cost of Euthanasia/Pet Cremation

We paid about $300 for an individual cremation with ashes returned in memorial box petsinpeace.com.au/pet-cremation. One of their staff sat with me at the vets while our cat was put down. They then transfered the body to their mortuary and returned the ashes about 8 days later. Some services offer cheaper prices but ship the pet to someone else to be cremated or don't guarantee individual cremation.

So sorry to hear your loss. I think I paid about £175 a year and a half ago. Ours died at the vets, so it probably included their fees as well. I didn't ask for an individual cremation, the ashes came back in a nice presentation box (cardboard). It took me few months before I could scatter them in the garden and I still held back some, in case we ever moved house so can take 'her' with me. Still can't talk about it without getting teary eyed. I'd be ready to take on another cat now but we still have 2 so there's no hurry.

Got the invoice here from Nev's visit earlier this month.

Total was £465.96 inc vat

£33.30 - consultation
£109.22 - IV set up
£9.18 - IV fluids
£12.26 - IV painkiller
£113.34 - X rays
£36.00 - Oxygen therapy
£50.06 - Euthanasia
£102.00 - Cremation & return of ashes.

The nice bits (!) were getting the invoice - it wasn't just posted out but was in a lovely card, and he's in a lovely wooden box with his name on the top of it, in front of the TV.

However, it's all being covered by the insurance (except for the cremation etc) so in total will cost us £157*. Which, for the care he received, is an absolute bargain.

*This isn't counting the £5 for the box of chocs and card for the staff!

Sorry for your loss. It's not an easy time.

Two years ago I had to have my old boy put to sleep - he was 19. I got the vet to come to the house to do it and I paid around £200, including individual cremation.

No it isn't!!!

I lost one of my cats fairly recently and I chose to have him put to sleep at home and transport him myself by appointment at the nearest pet crematorium.

I paid £65 for my cats cremation met the man that would be doing his cremation and we're promised it was an individual cremation got to see where he would be cremated (the individual furnaces) then had a lovely walk round their pet cemetary, before jumping in the car to go home. I collected his ashes the day after, they we're presented to me in a beautiful polished timber box with his name engraved on a brass plate on the lid.

I have to say it we're on of the nicest places I'd seen as pet crematoriums, the atmosphere was lovely and peaceful and they had the utmost respect for me and my beloved cat.

I understand not all people will want to see where and what happens to their pets when they are cremated, but for me, it helped put my mind at rest knowing he wasn't going to be put with other animals regarding the journey there.

Plus, it just goes to show, how much money vets charge on top of cremations as part of their service, which is disgraceful - shouldn't be allowed when you are grieving for your beloved pet!

Sorry about your loss - I am still hurting terribly about the death of a dog - that's the worst thing about keeping animals. Our vet recently charged us £81.49 for putting our fairly small dog to sleep and for the cremation. We did not want the ashes returned, but intend to plant a tree instead and put a bench next to it.......just need to choose the type of tree.

So sorry for your loss We had our lovely 17 year old tabby pts on Sunday and it's hit me a lot harder than I imagined it would. We've paid £111 for her to be pts and and an individual cremation, she will come home in a wooden casket with a name plate. I original paid £57 for a communal cremation but rang them the next day to say I'd changed my mind and it made me feel a lot better. Our 15 yr old tom seems to be moping although they weren't exacty the best of friends. I'm wondering about getting an older rescue cat for him but I'm not sure. Sorry to go off topic.

Hello, I guess that Larry is right. Costing depends on what services they offer or may vary on where you are. Like here in Pittsburgh, low cost cremation offered. So the best thing you'll have to do is ask your local vet for the low budget yet offers good service on pet funeral services.

Howo you say goodbye to one of your best friends. he has had an op for a Tumor, and its on its way back, the vet says it could be months rather than years, i know i will have to make the decision but its so hard, i need help, oh, he is a cat called BooBoo
