More Q's. Would an external drive do the job?

The internal one in you link looks fine, so does the external one. The internal one you need to take the pc side off and remove the old and connect the new.. It's neater and cheaper to do this rather than the external, but a bit more involved. Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow.0

Remove case side, The drives will be held in the bay by either screws, usually two at each side, or on rails, with some sort of slide / release mechanism, this depends on the case and or manufacturer.
There will be a wide cable IDE connected to the drives, probably one cable to both drives, as they have two connecters on. There will be a smaller white connected to each drive which is the power connector from the piwer supply unit.
Remove cables from drives, remove drives (This is with power off BTW!) Insert new drive, connect one ide connecter to with wide connecter at the back, connect power connecter to power of new drive. Insert blanking plate into case front, or leave one of your drives in. Something like that. Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow.0
