Do you have two separate optical Drives?

The MSI-CR52 is just a cd burner it is NOT a dvd burner. It doesn't sound like this reads DVD's either.

The other drive is just a DVD/CD reader and will not burn any...

  • Right, I think I've sussed that the DVD player is okay, but the CD-RW is kaput.

If the DVD drive is okay, I still cannot understand why I cannot see the stuff I have recorded, so that I can eidt it.

It appears to know there is something in the drive a my cursor changes to a CD picture, but it gets stuck then.

    All ideas appreciated.

  • Thanks Andy. So I cannot burn DVD's. Pity. I could still do with help on reading a dvd I've already created (not bought stuff, something I recorded myself)

Already created how? have you got a dvd camcorder or a dvd video recorder?

Maybe someone else has some more advice, but personally I would probably swap out both drives for a single DVD+CD RW drive which would read / write both cd's and dvd's.

Ok so now I think your older dvd rom drive in your pc is struggling to read the format of the disc that are being burned by the dvd/cd combi. What dvd discs are you using?. It could be the pc DVD drive will not read certain discs +r's for example and the MSI drive I don't think reads dvd's at all. Others may correct me on this but -r discs have a higher compatibilty for order hardware, so if the dvd/video combi supports -r's and you have been using +r's try again on one of these.

  • I'm using DVD-RW's.

So if I got a new DVD drive for the PC would it be likely to read all DVD types?
