£10, that's ridiculous isn't it!!! We've been out today looking for a pressie for a 5yo boy (thought hard but didn't think I could make anything suitable or give him a basket of something!). We ended up buying a Meccano set from Boots for £12 (used points so was free
). The set is great and I think we will get our oldest this for Xmas but looking round town I couldn't believe the massive amount of tat for huge prices. Do other people really buy that stuff? Who will look at the Dora set above and think wow, that's grear for £10...?
Lovely basket and bowl as always! looks fantastic!
Completely agree, and shamelessly I used to be one of them people who would think wow thats cheap and greatThen I found MSE and then I found the special occasions board. Now I seem to look at everything and think oh dear thats expensive, or I could make that for a fraction of the cost! :j:j I have been converted!
I have just bought the chalkboard storage boxes from Matalan. Was anyone surprised how small they were - they look much bigger in the photo:rotfl: very cute though:D I thought they were plastic, didn't realise they were material. am going to use one for friend's 5 year old ds but not sure what to put in it. He like power rangers but the price of these things to get more than one thing...
I thought they would be a little bigger although thought they were quite deep and struggled to bulk them out. Think I used scrunched up newspaper in the end!
Just a thought but you could still do a hamper for him, how about making up some paper with power ranger logo on the top? see if you can pick up a pencil case/pens/pencils etc cheaply from somewhere? then maybe add some other crafty items that you can find cheap? I know it won't all be power rangers but it would be a good start.
See if you can find any instructions on how to make a power rangers mask or something similar?Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -

Could you do something similar to your fab Harry Potter box of goodies but with a Power Rangers theme - add labels to bottles juice and sweets? You might be able to pick up a DVD cheapish and do a Power Rangers film hamper?
I too thought the chalkboard boxes would be bigger, I think the Matalan photos are deceiving! I need another one for DS2, not sure why but when I was in Matalan I only picked up one but wanted two...? If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
Here are some more pressies from me!
This is a nappy cake for a little girl aged 15 months. It is a present for her blessing (has already been Christened where it was family only and now having a blessing for friends). I am really pleased with it - thanks for all the tips Rusty ;-)
I used 34 Pampers size 4 nappies (did check size with mum!), pink fleece blanket from Asda £3, stripy pyjamas from Asda £3, In The Night Garden board book from Asda £1, 3 pairs socks from Matalan, little teddy from Asda £1, sixpence piece in an organza bag (bought both from ebay and added a little card saying Alice's lucky sixpence with the date of the blessing), laminated certificate for a star named after Alice...
Also put together this one for my friend's 40th. Have included a journal jar, journal book to record everything in and a pen, tealight candles & holders, jar of homemade lemon bath salts, flannel cupcake, laminated certificate for a star named for my friend, a pack of cards with comments on about things you should have done by the time you're 40...
Hope you like them :-) If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
Rainmac they are lovely!!!! I love the nappy cake it looks really professional
and love the sixpence idea.
Where did you get your jar from for the bathsalts (on the left of the pic in creamy yellow colour? I presume they are bathsalts) its lovely. Well doneRaising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
I love this thread, just found it through passion8, link here. Thanks passion8!
I made this basket for St Lukes Hospice to raffle off to raise funds. I bought the basket from another charity shop for £2, and the goodies inside are from Boots, see Boots link.
