  • I'm going to do baskets this year, but rather than using cosmetics and toilettries I'm doing a food one. Going to get a nice wicker basket (if anyone knows where from that'd be great!!) and fill it with some home made jam or lemon curd, mincemeat, mince pies, home made pasta, home made biscuits, maybe some soup, home made truffles, and a bottle of port/wine. I estimate that exlcuding the wine and basket the whole baskets will only cost me about £3 but will have a retail value of £15-20 - plus the added bonus that time and effort has gone into it.

My MIL will love it and my aunty and I might drop a couple of them round at the old folks home too since they're so cheap cos I'll make the stuff in bulk. Does anyone know where I can obtain lots of empty jam jars????
Last year i requested on freecycle for jam jars and were donated lots...its worth a try :)

I am currently working on some retro sweet hampers for various people. This is what they look like so far:

  • I love this thread! I've just done my first hamper. Did a "pink hamper" for my sis who is mad on all things pink! Included some pink toiletries and cosmetics and a pink bath towel as well as a pink photo album and a pink mug, bowl and side plate that you can't see in the pic as it was underneath the towel:

I'm quite pleased with it and can't wait to try out more ideas from here for Christmas!!
  • They all look excellent :)
    'They only had one cow!'
  • All these look fantastic :T I love the 'pink' one it looks lush and what a good idea to do a 'retro sweets' one....Keep up all these great ideas (and pictures) I would love to receive any of the ones I have seen on here so far...I am doing a charity basket this week (for a worlds biggest coffee morning in aid of Macmillan nurses) a pamper one, so will try to post a picture when it is finished....:j

  • I have just thought as well, I have got my Dad a years subscription for Top Gear magazine (using my clubcard vouchers), does anyone have any (cheap and cheerful) ideas to make up a basket with this in and possible other things that link in with the theme! Just a thought, but as everyone is going to be getting baskets etc. his is going to look a bit feeble in an envelope!

(it wouldn't let me add this as an edit to my previous post for some reason)
