Colour b4 product by Scott Cornwall

I just wanted to chip in with a bit of advice/a rant...

You may have seen tv adverts lately for a product called "colour b4" which is made by a chap called Scott Cornwall.

This product is getting all the hype lately as it claims to return DYED hair - even if a permenant dye has been used - back to its original colour it was before you ever dyed your hair !

Sounds really good in theory and sounded even more like a godsend when my 2 (not so) DD's were left home alone and DD1-17 yrs old decided that she was going to give DD2 - 14yrs old a make over with permenant BLACK DYE !

Cue me , one shocked and angry mum lol.

Anyhow , after a trip to boots the chemist I discovered this product and let out a sigh of relief that DD's beautiful blonde hair would soon be back.....

How wrong can you be !

We followed the instructions to the very letter and after the hours processing time we rinsed the product off DD's hair , dried it with the hairdryer and gasped !!! DD had pink/red/orange locks !

We emailed Scott to ask advice and the email was not unfriendly but the response which came back opened with the line "well before you ask , you are not getting your money back or any compensation" . I hadnt even asked for either..just a way to return my DD's hair back to normal as his product claimed !

So , on advice from Scott , we purchased another box of the colour b4 product as he had told us that as the dye used was black , we may need to use the colour b4 a second time .

Again , everything was followed to the letter and as it states on the box that the product *may* in extreme cases require a second treatment we were confident that this time the product would work as claimed....

On drying DD's hair this time we found it to be a mixture of bright ginger....red...pink...orange..yellow...

Cue one upset 14 year old !

Again , I emailed Scott and his response was that I may need to use the product up to 7 times (7 times ...even though the instructions state to use the product a max of 2 times ?Mmmm)

So , not wanting to do this , we again ask for advice and we are told that we should just put a little semi permenat dye into DD's hair to cover the multi colours . Off I go to tesco and buy a semi dye in lightest ash blonde (to cover the reds) and we apply the dye leaving it for the required amount of time. After rinsing DD has a full head of JET BLACK HAIR !

It seems that you are not supposed to apply a dye straight after using colour b4 as the shafts of your hair are still "open" and no matter what colour of dye you use your hair will return straight back to the colour you have just spend ages trying to strip out !

So , please , anyone considering using this "miracle product" dont ! Save your money as it doesnt work (and Scott doesnt pay compensation:rotfl:)

****All of the above is either my own experience with the product or my own opinion which I believe to be correct*******

You need to go to a hairdresser, whilst Colour B4 can lift a good few shades, it was never going to get her anywhere near blonde (and nor will a hairdresser).

Did they tell you to put a blonde colour on top of the red? That was never going to work!
    Gone ... or have I?

You can get colour stripper from Sally's, that will work.

DMG is right. Blonde over red = disaster.

I think your best bet is a hairdresser.

In defence of Colour B4 it can work, but it depends on a lot of factors. black to blonde is always going to be an utter nightmare that only a professional should attempt.

Darker is easier, lighter will ALWAYS need bleach. You will never turn a darker shade lighter without bleach.

For me personally, I've been dying my very long dark brown hair black for roughly 6 years. In between its also been red and blue so it truly has been hammered with colour. I tried colour b4 a few months ago and it did take the majority back to a deep chocolatey brown colour. The ends didn't come out so well, but it looks much more even as its growing out.

I used his str8 forward for chemically straightening hair and ended up with a patch of hair missing at the front and still have frizzy hair :mad:and yes I followed the instructions to the letter, so I'm not surprised that this product is as bad.
Personally I think the Scott Cornwall products are a waste of money and better avoided. They provide no help and have no interest other than not being sued when something goes wrong, disgusting company!

See thats the thing. If I had taken DD to a hairdresser (infact I actually wouldnt have needed to as my Best mate is a hairdresser) all they could have done was STRIPPED the hair , meaning it would have been taken down to a bright ginger orange color , I would have then had to apply another dye over the top of the ginger .

Scott Cornwall's product - colour b4 claims that you dont need to strip the hair....he claims that his product will enable all of the hair dyes to simply be washed out of the hair so in theory it sounds great !

We now have DD's hair at a darkish brown colour which is quite nice but not as nice as her natural hair but its the best we can do without putting any more permenant dyes in .

I think both DDs have now learnt a lesson :rotfl:

  • We had to use colour b4 to try to get permanent red out - had to use two packs as it says you may have to but after the second pack it ended up red again.... Emailed for advice and was told that as we'd use two packs it would take the colour back to what it was before the first pack.... Red! Argh!

With people saying you can't go from red to blonde - my hair will go from bright red to light blonde with any shop bought colour. I've done it enough times! If my sister tries that it goes a salmony colour so I think it all depends on the hair.

Well it didnt work on my DD's hair that much i can tell you :rotfl:. My best Mate is a hairdresser or maybe 20 odd years and she actually told me that colour b4 wouldnt work before I purchased it ! She told me that the only way to get dye out of hair is to STRIP on , taking it right down to bright orange hair . I didnt want to do this as my DD is only 14 uears old and I was trying to protect her hair from harsh chemicals .

I would never use any products by Scott Cornwall again . When I contacted him via email to ask advice on my Childs hair disaster I happened to mention to him that my Friend had told me that his product wouldnt work and his reply to me was " MAYBE YOU SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO YOUR FRIEND THEN"

Thats customer care for you !

Scott Cornwall actually advised me to use up to seven (yes 7:eek:) boxes of colour b4 on my childs hair , even though it tells you on the box to use a max of twice.

He got stroppy with me in the emails and told me that this hair disaster was all my own fault as I allowed my 14 year old to dye her hair in the first place....true to an extent I suppose but then if his product did what he claims it would do things such as this could be avoided !
