    Just an idea that may be good for money making at one of your stalls, l recall this as a kid myself and it was great fun.

    Its was called Rat Catcher or similar. Basically you make some sand bag rats (don't forget the tails) you attach a length of guttering to plywood, and the person has to trap/whack the rat with a stick as it appears.

    You could offer a prize for amount caught etc. Also l suppose if your creative you could change it from a rat to perhaps a more modern thing...ie. Pokemon, god l don't know l'm old....lol Its also an easy thing to store.

    Here is a link to a photo l found on Google to show what l mean
    pixel.gif
    aka Splat the Rat, but thanks for explaining it, I just named the game!

    It looks impossible in Paul's photo, because there's no solid 'background' when the rat comes out. This looks like the easiest way of doing it, but if you google 'splat the rat' you'll find lots of other photos (and possibly links to other fundraising ideas!)
    Signature removed for peace of mind

    We have a Christmas Fete, Summer Fete, "Come as you please" days, discos, and a few raffles and sponsored events.

    It may be good for you to have a look on the Hasbro website. They do product donations to schools (not sure if you have to be a registered charity, as we are) - once a year we get a box with 8 toys in. Last year we had a star wars light sabre, my little pony playsets, mr potato head. In the past we had a great big My littlest petshop playset.

    The only downside is, they tend to donate to nearest schools first. We are very lucky, their distrubution centre is only a few miles away, still in Newport. So you may not be accepted, but what is there to lose?

    Hi, do you have a link to request the above? The only one I can find says they dont donate to schools?

    We did a chocolate tombola at xmas, went down very well. Children bought in a chocolate item in exchange for a dress down day and we had small bars etc to bulk up. Plan to do the same but with sweets for the summer fair.

    Plant sale.

    Ours is scheduled for mid-May, and some of us are producing plants on a near-industrial scale...

    I've also raised over £100 in the last month by giving children the chance to make felt Mothers' Day hearts at lunchtime...it was hard work, and I daren't work out my hourly rate (not just the lunchtimes, but cutting out 250 hearts, making 125 three-part favours from felt scraps, and embroidering MUM on sparkly thread around 80 times for the littlies), but it's done now, and I'm pleased with myself.
    import this

    but cakes requires effort / money from the parents or staff

    Hmm.... and? We ask for donations of homemade cakes at each event we hold. I make a load too.

    Cakes are cheap to make, unless you get someone who likes to show off with fancy icing etc ;)

    At the end of the day the parents need to realise that us PSA / PTAs are trying to raise money for their children. It boils my blood to think they just do not care, or choose not to listen.

    We struggle to get 3 parents to our meetings. Ok, so it's not a great big school (70 ish pupils) But three is shocking! Especially as I'm one of those three. I have put letters out, questionaires, nothing seems to make these parents sit and think "well maybe we could help, it is all for our kids".

    But, saying that, I have managed to (single-handedly) organise two christmas fayres and two summer fetes. That's doing posters, letters for donations to parents and businesses, rounding volunteers, setting it all up, counting the takings, sending thanks to everyone after. And we raised £550 (christmas1) £798 (summer1) £645 (christmas2) and £954 (summer2).
    That makes me feel great! But also makes me wonder how much better we could do if people helped a little more.
    Thanks to all posters :A

    That's the American website

    http://www.hasbro.com/en_GB/corporate/community/product_donations.cfm

    You have to register and, as I said;
    "For schools - we prioritise schools in the Hillingdon Borough (where our Stockley Park offices are based), or schools close to our Newport warehouse. The same applies to playgroups and pre-school nurseries."

    It also states "All requests must come via or on behalf of a registered charity or community organisation."
    So not sure whether you HAVE to be a charity.

    Our PSA is a registered charity. It doesn't take long to set up, and can benefit in more ways than one. Gift Aid being an example.

    Have a look on http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/index.aspx
    there is lots of information on there.

    If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me. All the best!
    Thanks to all posters :A
