What's everyone doing about december/january pay??

Dh's work pays all their employees a week early in december (So probably the 22nd) and then a week early again in January (Because of January being a long month and feb being a short one..).... and obviously the problem is that direct debits etc will still have to go out at their normal time... so whats everyone doing? I'm considering getting DH to agree to put the early wages into the savings account until our normal payday so it would be like usual...
Just wondering what everyone else is doing? We're expecting a baby Jan 22nd so don't want to be facing a shortfall in the middle of Jan!!!

  • Budgeting like mad... that's what I'll be doing! We get paid on 21st Dec then have to wait until the end of Jan till the next pay day. It won't affect my DDs as they all come out on the 1st of the month anyway, I just have to make sure I don't spend much money between the 21st + 31st Dec.

  • All our dd's go out between the 31st (usual payday) and the 11th! Mainly because I don't get paid until the 5th of each month (which I hate!).

  • Holding onto it for dear life!! After all, Feb is my last pay then redundancy!

The timing should nt affect the DD's though as they all go out few days after payday.

Not going anywhere near the shops during that time though!

I am getting paid on the 22nd and then not again until the 25th of Jan. I am going to put all of my wages into savings and then transfer them back out again on the 27th, so it is like I have been paid on the 27th. I know I will be too tempted to dip into it otherwise! All DD's that are due on the 25th will come out then anyway so I won't go overdrawn.

It is going to be tough this year, don't know how I used to manage, oh yes I do- credit cards! Not this year though.

  • 1 pay packet to last from 22 December until 26 January............5 weeks!

Shouldn't affect the DD's really - I've already budgeted money from earlier (in particular Oct and Nov) paypackets for xmas, so will hide my cards, and stick to normal amounts of cash to take out.

Oh and avoid the sales armed with cards!! ;)

  • Oh no, I'd forgotten about getting paid early in December - why do employers do that?? Do they thinks its helpful or something

I shall (try) not to touch my wages until the date I would have normally been paid.

  • I'm getting paid a week early too, then the same again in January, I often have 5 weeks between pays so will just have to budget and stay away from the shops x
  • pay day on the 20th then no money until 26th Jan

I worked out I will have £3 a day to spend so hopefully loads of NSD and can build it up for new years eve, hopefully get some cash for my birthday on the 27th, basically im screwed, as long as i have petrol in the car i can do without money for a few weeks!!!
