Can we get any help?

Hi there,

My OH is going through a bit of a dispute with his works and has not recived any wages or sick pay since August.

We are having to get by on £120 a week off tax credits and child benefit, and its getting hard, esp with xmas coming up.

Is there anyway we can get any help from the social or tax credits to help us for the time being?

Thought I would ask here before I wait on the phone for 2 hours to get through :o

Thank you. xxx

    try https://www.entitledto.co.uk

Although sometimes they are a bit "out" its a recommended website.

Sorry, normally I do, but on a self employed basis and nover-febuary is very slack, lucky to get £30 a week :(, I have taken this into account with the total I have put up.

I tried entitledto, but because he is still technically employed (although his work are not paying him because they are hoping he will hand his resignation in) I didnt think that it would be accurate

We have been given some HB/CTB but not a full award because they said they had to calculate it off his earnings.

Should I maybe try tax credits first seeing as we have an existing claim? Or just go straight to DWP?

  • If your partner is ill but they refuse to pay Statutory Sick Pay, they should provide form SSP1. Your partner can appeal their decision not to pay by speaking to HM Revenue & Customs (they will also help if SSP1 is not provided), or otherwise speak to social security who may provide Incapacity Benefit or Income Support.

If he isn't ill and they just aren't paying him, speak to ACAS as soon as possible (08457 474747).

  • Thanks, his sick note has now ended but when writing to work to tell them when he was coming back, he just got tnothing from them, he has tried contacting them, but they never get back to us or take our calls. I have spoken to ACAS, or an equivilent anyway, and I have filed a letter of grievence which gives them 28 days to get back to us or we take them to small claims, its just something to tide us over in the mean time. :(

    So try DW&P first?

  • I would say so - income support most likely.

  • I'd ring the social security office rather than possibly making a wasted journey!

  • Hi, Exactly how much do you have coming in, and how many is this providing for? If the above is for 2 adults and one child i dont think you will get IS as you are well over the limit
