How did I know you'd say that? :rotfl:
There is little to it when teahing your own child at home.
I couldn't be a teacher, as I said earlier, but teaching your own child is different and far less work!
It was far too obvious an opportunity to miss!
Teaching your own child is far less work, but only if you have a decent standard of education yourself. I see plenty of notes from parents which suggest a basic teaching of grammar would be beyond many. We have 25% of adults in many parts of the country with the working literacy level expected of an 11 year old child. Clearly, many parents simply are not up to the job of teaching their own children.0 -

But didn't most of those adults go through the education system...?0 -

Oh yes. I never claimed state education was a panacea for achieving literacy.
The reasons for the stubborn quarter/fifth who fail to achieve 'literacy' are much debated. I obviously have my own views, as do all teachers, and probably all parents. Again, teachers have an excellent insight into the reasons for this...we watch children failing to learn everyday of our working lives for many years! It's just that we're rarely asked for our opinions by the people in charge!0 -

It's not as simple as taking them out of school for a week, is it?0 -
Do you think, if we did a survey, we'd find they were all taken out of school for family holidays?
Maybe in those days the inset days were as well as the school holidays...If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -
