Holidays with kids in school time, have you done it?

I should imagine that the reason a school is closing on April 1st due to royal wedding, is cos the actual wedding date falls within their closed easter hols, so the staff do not benefit from the additional day, therefore they will be closed for an additional day to make up for it.
BTW- the same thing happens next year, due to an additional BH for the Queen's jubilee. There is already a notice on my council's website that schools will close a day earlier than originally said for the summer hols due to it. Worth realising for next year.0 -
They also had 2 'inset days' last week after the week off school, this was another 2 days of my son's education, so there's 3 days already, there are also more inset days throughout the year, the school week is only 5 which is what he missed while we were on holiday.
INSET days have always been holiday days for children. Teachers are paid to work 195 days, and five of those days are for training (INSET). These five days used to be holiday days - they are not 'extra days off'.0 -
It's because the wedding is during the school holidays so they wouldn't be getting the extra day off otherwise. And teachers just don't get enough holidays do they...:p
Ouch!! Now you're moving into dangerous territory! :rotfl:
Actually for all I've said on here, I think most of them work very hard and do far more than the 'school day'. I'm just not in awe of their academic ability.0 -

Yes so someone pointed out. I wasn't being serious anyway, it was just petty moaning to fit in with all the other petty moaning on this threadIf you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -
Yeah I guess so, but it still means one of the holidays is less days and I am a great fan of school holidays!
Why you a fan of school hols since you HE? Even our swimming pool puts its prices up.:mad: I'm a fan of inset days for this reason, keeps them entertained a lot cheaper, more of a pain now I work though, cos they are a pig to find childcare for.0 -
Post 127.
Unfortunately, many teachers feel they know better than parents, just because they are trained in their profession.
Sometimes they do but sometimes they don't, and perhaps some teachers expect respect from parent without giving any in return?
Post 127 in no way, shape or form suggests that a parent could never educate their child to the 'same level' as a teacher!
Oh, just read your later post - I see you're home-eding yours. Of course, you would say there's 'little to it' then wouldn't you...:p0 -

Bottom line is - if your kid is behind/has poor attendance then they can't afford to miss a week. If they're bright/have good attendance then they can.
I really don't care who disagrees, I am rightIf you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -

How did I know you'd say that? :rotfl:
There is little to it when teahing your own child at home.
I couldn't be a teacher, as I said earlier, but teaching your own child is different and far less work!0 -
No, I thought that cos I couldn't work out which weeks holiday was missing from my own schooldays. Inset days were brought in after I left, but they were just 'bits' of holidays, having 2 and a half weeks off instead of two, rounding weeks up, and finishing on a Thursday instead of Friday, or going back Tues instead of Mon.

I said I 'would' begrudge them reducing the holidays - meaning I'd be very miffed if my child were still in school.
I loved the school holidays and hated the first day of term!
I work evenings and weekends though so holidays have never been a big childcare issue for me.0
