Juniors. Because we had one authorised in September so fair enough, same school year. Thing is though, it was only a week then and is this time, they can authorise 2 weeks but only seem to do that if it's 2 weeks in one go.

She was very nice, more of a courtesy call to say sorry that they couldn't actually authorise it so just to take it unauthorised.

Ahh, I can see their point to be fair if you've already been authorised time off this school year.

You won't get a fine tho will you?

  • Hello You Lot, is this still going? :p

For anyone who is interested (although I think this thread turned into a debate on something else to be honest) I handed the absense form into school last week, the office lady said in all honesty it wouldn't make much difference to the outcome if I added a letter explaining our reasons for taking a term time holiday. I decided to just add a few points to the back of the form anyway. Two days later I got my reply and holiday WAS AUTHORISED! :j Our head decided it could be classed as 'special circumstances'.

That's great you've got it sorted out!

I always said to myself I would never take my children out of school for a holiday in term time, but we are doing it in December to go to Center Parcs. DD will miss 5 days of school, 2 weeks before they break up for xmas hols. Reasons is that my DH is not allowed to take any leave from work after the 15th dec as this is a busy period at work, and this was the only week we could get as close to the school holidays.

We're going to try and take holidays during the school hols in future, but we knows loads of people at dd's school who go on holiday in term time and I don't blame them.

    We're still going.

I won't do it next year though because he'll be in the last year of juniors.

Think that policy is down to the individual school. I queried this cos we took ours out last Nov as there were 2 inset days in aweek so they just absent 3 days and though a school year runs Sept-jul. my DH's hols run Jan-Dec, mine April-March and we also work around hubby's work project and can also only go abroad inbetween hubby's medical appts due to insurance issues. At the time I also had my eye on a weeks hol in June that also has 2 insets in it (can't have it due to hubby not getting to the holiday planner first!!) so I ran all this by the school sec and she said though strictly speaking it should only be 10 days in 1 go, and my kids school they are more flexible.

Mine is in the last year of Juniors and it's the reason I want to go as it will be the last time, as I won't be taking him out when he gets to Secondary school. Have to be careful when we look for, I could curse hubby for not getting to the holiday planner earlier!! As I wouldn't take him out when he was going on a residential trip (last week) when his SATS are approaching, when he starts with the links to Secondary school (visits etc) or if he was to miss his last concert/sports day/ day at school.
