I always freeze my grated mozerella cheese bags so my kids dont snack on it. Just bang the pack on the side, then sprinkle from frozen when needed:D

I suppose you can freeze ready made pizzas so it makes sense! :o

Base from breadmaker, with a slug of basil flavoured oil (in my Christmas stocking, £1.50 from Aldi).

Tomato puree, a bit of oregano from the windowsill and whatever cheese we have. Plus something pepperoni-ish if we have it, most likely frozen in pizza-size portions.
    import this
  • can anyone tell me how long the base will last in the fridge uncooked?
    :p:A£6478 of Debt  - Now £3879.92

Why not make your own prosciutto??

    See this.. Home made prosciutto

I also make my own salami & chorizo (last batch of chorizo I made cost me approx £14, and was equivalent to about £60's worth of chorizo from Tesco's - and it tasted better too :D )

I've always found Pizza Express pizzas to be... awful... they taste like cardboard!

I got some pizza express ones from the supermarket last week, never again. Tasted horrible and I didn't even want to eat them. They were really bland.

Sainsburys do some pizza bases which I like, and then I just add the toppings, cheese and sauce. You get two in one pack. I much prefer these when I don't have much time.

I have tried the Asda ones before that they make up for you and the ones I have tried have been nice.

  • My OH used to go mad for those frozen french bread pizzas, but they're almost £2 a box even in the bargain frozen food shops and you dont get a lot of topping on them. Now I cant make bread to save my life so this is what I do....

I buy a french stick or tiger tail breadstick (whatever is in the whooops in Asda or on the reduced bit in somerfield). Chop it in half, spread some own-brand passata or some tinned tomatoes with herbs on it, then put some grated cheese (if you grate it on the smallest part of the grater it goes further - smaller pieces more air inbetween). Then whatever toppings you like mushrooms, a bit leftover ham, some tinned sweetcorn. I buy bags of frozen sliced peppers and just sprinkle a few of those under the cheese so it doesn't go all watery on the top from the peppers defrosting. Whatever is in the fridge or cupboards really. These are really filling because the bread is so crunchy & thick. (all asda prices as per mysupermarket)

    Breadstick pk 2:- 67p
whole tin of tomatoes & herbs - 56p
whole 500g bag of grated pizza cheese - £1.98
500g frozen peppers - £1.62 (can get it for less than £1 in likes of iceland, heron & farmfoods)
smartprice dried mixed herb - 19p

Thats £5.02p and would easily make 4 large french bread pizza's with probably some bits and pieces leftover....less than £1 each!!!!!

I drain, then freeze, the mozzarella balls - they grate beautifully direct from frozen - which can't be said about them when they're fresh!

I grate mozzerella, mix it 50/50 with cheddar and freeze that for use on pizza. If it freezes into a lump in the bag a quick wallop with the side of your hand usually sorts it out.

I think home made pizza can get as expensive as the toppings you choose to put on it. A whole £2 jar of sun dried tomatoes sounds on the expensive end, has to say. I tend to use up what's in the fridge or freezer....bit of red onion, a couple of mushrooms, slice of ham and there's always a jar of olives open. You only need a little of each. Chicken scraps, sweetcorn, even a rasher of diced bacon?

Thanks for this, I will try it out. I grate cheddar to freeze but didn't think you could do it with mozzarella. Hope it works as it's the only pizza ingredient that's kept in the fridge. I used to buy fresh mushrooms and peppers, slice them myself and then freeze them but I've just bought a bag each of the frozen variety to give them a try; works our cheaper per kg but am expecting it to not taste as good.
I'm going to start making my tomato sauce in a big batch and freeze it in portions as well. Frozen dough has worked out well for me too.
The only downside to all this is that it will be so quick and easy to have HM pizza, we'll be having it all the time.

Oh and I second the comment re pizza stones, I got one for christmas and then bought another 2 from the boots 75% off sale (they were about £4 each along with pizza slicer, jar of olives and jar of pizza herbs). Yes I know that's 3 pizza stones :o, but I cook 2 pizzas at a time for me and OH and I just couldn't turn down the 3rd at that price. Anyway, they are amazing, they live on the bottom shelf of my oven as you have to make sure that they're already in there when you turn the oven on otherwise they might crack.

My next objective is pizza tossing :rotfl:
