I actually think Windows 7 is ok but even after a few weeks of use it starts slowing down takes ages to boot crashes and I got so fed up my windows pc has been banished.
But surely the crashes are because of the user?
I for one, have had this PC since January last year and a few days ago was the first crash, which was on bootup because for some reason my keyboard and motherboard don't get along after driver updates.0 -

Not always, I consider myself a competent user, I have a network+ qualification and never have any problems with Linux or Mac, in fact I myself don't really get get many problems with Windows, it is more other peoples that I have to fix, which leads me to believe the coding and OS design is at fault as well as the user.
In my opinion Windows is inferior to Linux, Unix and OSxIt said on the box requires Windows 7 or better, so I bought a MAC0 -

For you? Or for everyone?
Definitely for me, perhaps for a lot more people if they were willing to give Linux a try.
It is a pity a lot of people are put off trying Linux as I think if it was given a chance people may take to it.It said on the box requires Windows 7 or better, so I bought a MAC0 -

Not my experience, I've had Win 7 running since the beginning of 2010, the only glitch being when I absent-mindedly plugged in a bootable flash drive as it was booting from the hard drive.
As for slowing down, I installed Win 7 and immediately ran Super Pi, before updates/AV etc.
It is still giving the same result (18.04) +/- 10th of a second, 14 months later.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
[/BI must have got confused when you said BSD is Unix:eek::
Well I can say that I don't experience any crashes or system hangs and my boot times aren't slow. My home version doesn't have half the features removed either. As far as I know I don't need the features included in the professional and ultimate editions: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/compare
Oh and I schedule my defrags once a year.
All in all it seems like you never were capable of using windows so its probably good you moved to a more controlled environment.:rotfl:
Ooh how funny you are!!!!
So because the poster does not agree with you, try to ridicule him.How intelligent.0 -

I did wrongly say BSD was unix and not unix like, but I think your comment was that I stated Linux was unix which clearly is wrong as I said it is Unix like.

I am very capable of using Windows, Ive fixed enough in my time, and I am CompTia network+ certified, I actually moved to Linux (great OS) for years before buying my "controlled environment";)
Have you tried Linux or do you stick with Mr Gates' far too common "safe option, I can get help because everyone has it" Windows? It said on the box requires Windows 7 or better, so I bought a MAC0 -
Shegirl, it sounds to me that this Mac isn't a new tool for your computer whizz son, but rather a new toy. No PC or no other OS will be suitable as a toy for him as he already has those (save for Hackintosh, but let's keep this simple here). I'd be the one of the first to try to convince you the Mac is bad value for money as a tool, but since that's not its purpose here it's irrelevent.
The only questions that I think should be asked are:
1. Is this too much to pay for a (toy) present?
2. Is the amount of fun he'll get out of this present worth the money paid?
If the answers are No/Yes respectively then you should go for it.
The only other thing I'd suggest is to consider second hand ones and refurbs. Especially refurbs.0 -
A grand.... for a 12 year old......?!!

wow - the same evidence would lead me to believe the user is at fault..probably some of those 'tards who turn of UAC.
All my machines are fast and malware free, my kids manage not to install malware on theirs either, not sure if that's because they're smart or lucky..or maybe it's because I spent a tiny amount of time making their PCs idiotproof? Anyway, my point is that PCs don't inherently slow down, they aren't magnets for malware, bluescreen events are extremely rare, my PC boots to desktop in around 30 seconds and it's got tons of stuff installed, apps and games, I even changed gpu (nvidia to ati) without cleaning out the old drivers 1st..and it's still rock solid.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
