also her ORIGINAL post did not say he was looking to do software development on it that came along further in. The problem is threads and discussions such as this get hyjacked by people saying in effect no you apple fan boys know nothing you have been brain washed by steve jobs ... who incidentally looks very good considering how ill he is!

    About sums it up. :T

And you sum up ignorant ramblings and the reason threads such as these descend in to slanging matches. If you don't like them do don't buy them. Personally I have never slated any android devices only windows from my own experiences. I happen to like the android approach and own a nexus one. Also I like quite a few Linux distros. I don't call windows users names though.

I apologise for interrupting the slanging match, but maybe we can advance the argument somewhat.

Focus purely on hardware. The iMac is a lovely style item, my sister has one and it looks right at home in a stylish study.

So....for non-Mac, this is my personal preference ...

    - for desktop, I love Shuttles. My XPC is glossy piano black and looks neat yet packs a decent performance punch. The carry bag you can buy for it is also nicely styled.
    - for laptop, I do like the style of my HP Envy. Admittedly it steals a lot of styling cues from the MacBook pro range. Alas, we in Europe get short changed. In the US buyers off this laptop can get the Dr Dre custom finish, and they get a decent set of 'cans thrown in too. (grrr).

What's your *PC* style hardware, and why does it 'cut it'? :)

My darling, computer obsessed, computer whizz son has been desperate for an iMac for a while and it looks like I'll be getting him one for his birthday in April.

However,as I'll be shelling out over a grand for the thing can anyone give me a list of pros compared to other computers/laptops... I know about lack of pop ups and viruses but that's about it:o

I thought this time I'd wait till the #100 thread~count, time after time / year after year  sorry shegirl your post was always gonna go this way !

I will keep it short and sweet.

Mac is the only computer to have! I will never buy a windows based machine again, ever.

Just had a thought (and who knows, maybe we could have some original discussion)

shegirl, if your PC is powerful enough then it might be possible to run Mac OS X Snow Leopard inside a virtual machine (i.e. in a window whilst running Windows/Ubuntu). This way your son can try out OS X and see if he likes it enough to want a proper Mac

Snow Leopard costs a mere £26 from what I can tell, and the virtual machine (Virtualbox) is free. It's a bit complicated to set up, but I think your son might be able to do it. Spending a risky £26 to potentially save £1000 might be a risk you want to take.

There are lots of guides for this on Google, here's one
