Cat weeing in house! UPDATE on my mog

  • So glad I stumbled on this thread - my 4 year old cat's just started peeing indoors in the same spot despite having peed nicely outside all summer...

I've tried everything on the smell and it's not worked so the carpet in the hallway has now come up (gah!!)

Anyway, thanks to this thread I've booked her in at the vets tomorrow so we shall see if there's a good reason for this!

As an aside, I've now put down a litter tray for her and she seems to be happy to use that so fingers crossed in the meantime she won't mess again!

Oh, and she's always had dried food too - maybe time to switch to wet?

Hello - same as danna just wondering if there was any news on your mog loops?

James - keep us updated on your cat too. Like I said before although its better to be safe than sorry, the chances are that it will be nothing but I am quoting my vet who told me not to give him any dried food whatsoever. But the problem is more dangerous in toms than queens. My boy only had such a dangerous time cos he was left too late. Apparently tho its rare for them to be able to revive them after they 'die' from a heart attack so Im very grateful and if I get the chance to stop anyone from going through what I did then i'll keep banging on about it.

My vet said the because cats are originally from a dry climate they need a lot of fluid in their food as opposed to drinking water. They need the wet food so they can absorb the water.

But be warned - if you go onto a meat only diet (and your cats as fussy as my little horror) it'll want feeding more cos theyre not getting the full feeling as they did with the dried. Also its costing a fortune - but hes worth it.

Best of luck and dont forget to post back.

Has everyone with a cat been through this I wonder?

Our (now 17-year-old) female cat took to peeing on the hall carpet in the corner when she arrived with kittens from the farm next door 15 years ago. She'd come in from outside and do it in the corner.

We put a litter tray down, on newspaper on a plastic-covering square (from B&Q I think). She's been going in the litter ever since and, sure, she'll track a few granules of cat litter out, but it vacs up easily so no prob.

Litter tray isn't elegant but is mostly under a longish-legged cabinet so not too bad, and if it's kept emptied as necessary it doesn't smell. And it's a million times better than cat-peed carpet.

Our boy-cat used it when he had to stay in after an op, but usually he doesn't. He's a well-behaved boy cat re this . . . . . but still knocks hell out of the female cat and us. :(
    Where now?

Lou, James, any news on your kitties?
  • I spent over £100 getting ym cat tested last summer because she started weeing and spraying in my house. vet said nothing physically wrong with her and it's behavioural. I'd moved house (with the cat) several months before and it's now 11 months on and I still have problems with her. Everyone who experiences these problems has my sincere sympathies!
  • I have one cat that does it religiously up against the back window, I think on seeing other cats. Awful. We've just cleaned up after him for years. Its a behaviour thing. But I shall try the cumin rather than the bleach, great advice. The other, his brother, just started doing it this month but in a different way. He was clearly distressed. We took him straight to the vets and he had cystitis. He was obviously upset, running between litter trays, not eating and beside himself. Thanks for the tips re cumin and lemon. Will be trying them this week!
If you knew it then you know it!
