and always bleach the tub

Liz - it's the bleach that's bringing him back - it'll have amonia in it! Cat's are attracted to the smell thinking it's another cat so they'll re-pee (is that a word?lol) in the same area to mark it for themselves. It's a difficult call because you want to make sure your bath is clean. Why not try cleaning initially with bleach then washing down with hot water and non-bio washing powder/liquid? HTH

Our boy cat did this and he had kidney stones - definitely go to the vet but in the mean time could you put a carrier bag over the area and some newspaper over the top - the paper will absorb the liquid and the bag stop it getting through to the carpet. I wouldnt recommend stopping him going there - he may go somewhere else which you may not notice until it is too late.

our male 15 year old cat did the same thing and it turned out to be cystites and crystals in his urine. please get the cat checked out as if it is crystals, it can become a fatalaity if left too long (m poor cat was on the edge) hes ok now and is kept in check with medication. If your cat is licking himself alot walking with his back legs stiffened like he is in pain i could be crystals. Hope it all gets sorted out xxMMxx

  • he doesnt seem to be in any pain -although you can never tell! and is walking ok, he does have an enlarged heart and does have trouble with his breathing sometimes, but that is about the same as usual.

I am worried now tho, as it was initally in the same place, but since i scrubbed the carpet, underlay, floorboards with bio washing poweder and rubbed lemons on the carpet too (an shut him out of the landing/hall way in the day time) he has now done it somewhere else.

I have booked a vets appointment for monday afternoon - as i cant get him there any sooner, and fingers crossed everything is ok.

Im really worried now as its been nearly 2 weeks

If this is new behaviour it would be worthwile taking your cat to the vet to have him checked out. It's possible he has a health problem.

Our female cat did the same thing. The second time it happened I took her to the vet and it turned out the poor cat had cystitis. Obvously it won't be cystitis for your boy, but it might be something.

Our ginger tom gets cystitis, we give him cranberry juice in wet food and it usually sorts him out

Dont get too stressed - we've told you the worst case scenario, but if it was to get serious youd know pretty quickly. Any swelling of the bladder, or sickness, any pinkness in the urine can all be signs of serious trouble.

Honestly chances are its something minor if its anything medical at all - either that or the little so and so just doesnt want to go outside and pee cos its cold.

Good luck for monday, try not to stress just keep an eye on him and dont forget to let us know how it goes.

thanks all for you help and advice. i was getting annoyed about it, but now i feel sorry for him! if it isnt something medical then i have a whole new battle on my hands!!
I loathe to get a litter tray but if needs must (although he has a bad habit of standing on the edge of the tray and weeing outside it, then kicking all the litter out!) so may have to invest in one of those enclosed ones.

now i have a similar prob. but it is my neighbours cat how is weeing in the house. it used to be used the same patch. but now , it'c over the computer , plug sockets , microwave , walls , fridge , toy box , doors but only ever down stairs.

i have 4 cats and i can't lock the cat flap , as they love going out side and the freedom and it not fair to punish my cats. but do u think the nieghbours cat could ahave a medical problem or just being a pain in the !!!. also we have a very timid siamise cat and the other day i came home to find the neighbours cat sat on my cat clawing her. she was so scared she poo'd herself. it has taken my cat about 2 weeks to come up to anyone now. she just hides.

but our neighbours are really good friends and they off course love there cat , so how do i approach the situation with up setting them. they don't have a cat flap as there last cat wee'd in the house. so there cat is out all day long while they at work .

We had a problem with strange cats in our house.

We solved it by getting a cat flap which requires a magnet on the collar, so our cats can get in but the others can't (unless they happen to be wearing a magnet too).

We initially got the really expensive cat flap with the colour coded collars. However, our boy managed to lose three of them in one week and they are hideously expensive to replace.

Now we just have the simple magnet. It's funny to see what he sometimes brings home attached to the magnet, but overall its sooo much better.

I would speak to your friends about the cat spraying in your house. I would start by saying that your're not sure whether you should say something, but you know how much they love their cat and that if the situation was reversed you would want to know.

Then tell them the cat has been spraying in your house, and you are afraid he might have something wrong with him. Say that you read somewhere that it can be an indicator of a urinary tract problem.

I know that I would definitely want to know.
  • we had an elderly very much loved cat, with recurring kidney problems, whose tray was kept in our hall. She began to regularly miss her tray and we gave up with having a carpet there, went to a local flooring shop and put down some cheap vinyl wood effect flooring that could be easily cleaned. she died at the age of 20 and is still missed 10 years later. (the flooring is still going strong).

As your problem is on your landing what about some of that self adhesive carpet protector that is sold for decorating in screwfix or wickes, not the carpet runner type but that stuff that you peel the backing off and it sticks lightly to your carpet.
  • I am having a similar problem with a new cat. It is a bit unusual and its driving me round the twist. I have had problems with her using the litter tray sometimes she will use it sometimes not, up until the other day she shared one with my other cat. I then got her a litter tray for herself as I thought she might not like sharing. alll was well, until she started doing it on the floor again! I now think I know what the problem is and I dont know how to get round it, I keep the tray very clean and clean it everyday but I think she wants the tray cleaned after every single use! this is impossible, it means that if she has a wee in the morning while I'm at work she will then use the floor later in the day because it has not been cleaned. The only time she seems to use it is when there is totally clean litter in it, but if she uses it once then its a no go area!! what can I do? thinking of taking her to a cat shrink. I have had six cats and this is the first time i've ever experienced this what do I do??
