we had the same problem with one of our cats, I thought he was just marking his territory but it turned out he had a urine infection and crystals forming in urine causing him pain... I felt terrible! If someone hadn't suggested taking him to the vet I would have kept on shouting at him and chucking him out!

a tip our vet gave for cleaning up after him was to use a solution of biological washing powder as this will neutralise the smell completely, otherwise the cat can still smell it even if you can't.

let us know how it turns out.

This reminds me - it was not kidneys, it was urinary for our cat too. The vet recommended not to give him dry food as this exacerbates the problem.

I wish my neighbours cat would learn how to urinate and defecate on his carpets rather than my flower beds:rolleyes:
  • Try a libral skaking of Olbas Oil where we going his business. It sounds odd I know but I used to work in a vets and its tried and tested!
2007 is my getting slim year
Total weight loss so far is 16llbs:T
    Total to go 15 pounds:eek:
Not no more as im having a baby:D
  • As i mentioned before my cat keeps having "accidents" in teh same place in my house. i have stopped him going to that part of the house for the time being (although it isnt entirely practial long term) while i find a solution. He hasnt done it since, or anywhere else (other than outside i presume!)

Someone told me that you can discourage this behaviour by putting lemon on the carpet. I know this sounds stupid but do I squeeze the lemon on the carpet? Or rub it in?!

or any other solutions would be appreciated!

    thanks

    Hi loopyloulou,

I have merged your thread with your other one about the cat....I'm sure there are other threads around that should help you, so I'll have a look and post back if I find some.

  • thanks pink winged! i am tearing my hair out with this now!!

he doesnt seem to have done it anywhere else - i have been like a mad sniffer dog round the entire house - he just has a sweet spot at the top of the stairs!!

looks like a trip to the vets might be called for - just in case
  • Can i ask a stupid question? what do i do with the bio washing powder?

sprinkle on carpet and hoover up?

    thanks

    Lou xx
  • I agree with the "take him to the vet" suggestions.
As for getting rid of the pong.....there's a spray called Odour Eliminator made by a company called AnimalCare that biologically removes odour, our vet sells it, its very effective. Smells like marzipan for a day or two, much better than cat pee.
Try placing a bowl of food at the area once its cleaned up, cats won't pee where they eat....allegedly....

small amount in some warm water then clean the area like you would with a carpet/floor cleaner. HTH
